Volcom ski and snowboard pants made from recycled polyester?
For more than ten years now, Volcom has been progressively integrating eco-friendly materials into several of its products and collections. Hemp in boardshorts for surfing, recycled nylon for women's swimming trunks, but also technical clothing for skiing and snowboarding made from recycled polyester! For this last point, it is since 2012 that Volcom has partnered with Repreve, a polyester recycling company using plastic waste, the most famous of which is the plastic bottle.
Repreve, like many recycled materials, saves precious energy resources. For example, when we compare the manufacture of 1 kg of Repreve recycled polyester to that of a conventional polyester, we see that Repreve saves an average of 99% of water while reducing CO2 emissions by 20% and 35% of waste produced, all while using approximately 62% less energy.
You can find Repreve recycled polyester fibre in many Volcom snowboard and ski pants and technical pants. On Volcom snow clothing, Repreve fibre can be treated with a durable water-repellent finish that does not contain perfluorocarbons. The result is ski or snowboard pants that have been manufactured with recycled materials and do not require hazardous chemicals.
