Camping tents
Which tent should you choose for your next bivouac?
If you’re looking for a new tent, welcome to our hiking and bivouac section! To help refine your choice among leading brands such as MSR, Ferrino, Camp, Bach, Sea To Summit, Marmot, Vaude and Salewa, start by deciding what level of comfort you’re aiming for. We recommend setting a maximum weight you’re willing to carry in your rucksack. If you plan to bivouac in spring and summer, a 2-season tent will be sufficient. However, in the mountains, especially at higher altitudes, a 4-season model offers better protection when the wind picks up and the weather turns. The shape also matters. A dome tent, a tunnel tent or a tipi each have different wind resistance characteristics.

Key features to consider
Canopies and materials: ensuring durability and comfort
The tent flysheet shields you from rain, snow and wind. In both camping and bivouac use, cotton has almost disappeared. Synthetic fabrics now dominate. They reduce overall weight and dry much faster, while offering equal or even greater strength and resilience.
Weight and portability: finding the right balance for trekkers
When hiking, every gram matters. The weight of a trekking tent is crucial — it contributes to the success of your adventure by reducing fatigue over multiple stages. Robustness is also a key factor, as are wind stability and waterproofing. You need to strike the right balance between weight, ease of pitching, and reliability to enjoy every bivouac rather than endure it.
Tent types: a range to suit every need
For solo use, a one-person tent is sufficient. Naturally, if you want a bit more room, a two-person model is also a great choice. For two people, a two-person tent is the minimum. Ideally, it should have an entrance on each side and vestibules to keep boots and rucksacks dry. All tents feature effective ventilation to limit condensation on the flysheet. Some models also include very practical integrated storage pockets.
Accessories and maintenance: extending your tent’s lifespan
To ensure your tent lasts, always make sure it’s completely dry before storing it. After several days or weeks of trekking or bivouacking, let it air dry thoroughly before packing it away. After years of intensive use, it can be reproofed. Using a footprint helps protect the groundsheet when pitching on abrasive terrain. We recommend keeping an eye on the seams to avoid unpleasant surprises during your trips. It’s also wise to remove any caked-on soil from the tent pegs.
One-person, two-person or larger tents
The tents we offer range from one- to three-person models. One-person tents maximise lightness. Two-person tents provide extra interior space. Three-person designs offer a truly comfortable volume. Tents with one or two vestibules allow you to store your pack and footwear out of the rain, freeing up more room for a restful night’s sleep.
Ultralight trekking tents
An ultralight tent helps reduce pack weight — a real advantage on long treks. Ultralight doesn’t mean fragile: reliability is essential for long-distance hiking. Ultralight trekking tents are built tough enough to withstand repeated pitching and striking. Some models come without a flysheet, making them even more compact when packed, freeing up space in your trekking backpack. If you’re aiming for a minimalist setup, note that some tents are designed to be pitched using trekking poles instead of tent poles. The tent pegs are also lighter to help you shave off a few extra grams.
Four-season tents for mountain expeditions
Four-season tents are ideal for high-altitude expeditions, especially when the weather turns unpredictable. Their structure withstands strong gusts and heavy snowfall. As the materials are even more robust and protective, the overall weight is slightly higher.
