Woman's Nordic ski glove buying guide
Whether you are going for a stroll in the forest or looking for long distance performance in open ground, there is nothing worse than having cold hands. But your needs will be different according to what you are doing. By following the Glisshop guide you will be sure to make the right choice.
What are the different types of Nordic ski gloves available?
As you will have noticed, there are different types of gloves. The brands are very imaginative when it comes to creating effective and light products. But why should a glove be light? In Nordic ski you need to have a good grip to hold your pole and have efficient arm pushes. This is why the brands use materials that are both light and insulating.
Standard ski gloves give you a perfect grip. However the fact that the 5 fingers are separated promotes coldness and chilblains. These ski gloves are generally used when the weather conditions are mild or for intensive sport in competition. These Nordic gloves are still generally equipped with a layer of insulating material on top to avoid as much heat loss as possible.
For skiers who feel the cold more, there are also gloves with 5 separate fingers that have an additional cover that can cover the hand when needed, like a mitten. These gloves with storm protection are very practical when weather conditions go bad and the temperatures begin to lower.
In this category, for example, you can find the Rossignol XC Alpha Black glove
Have you heard about 3 finger gloves? They are more commonly known as lobster claw or lobster gloves in English. By bringing some of the fingers together, lobster gloves provide excellent insulation, thus making them warmer than standard gloves while allowing a good grip.
What kind of gloves should I prefer?
Your choice of Nordic ski glove obviously depends on climatic conditions but also on the physical intensity you put into your ski outing. During competitions or sporty outings, standard gloves are usually the No. 1 choice. They offer the good grip needed for your pole, and the heat generated by the body during exercise is enough to warm the hands. However, when temperatures are very low, it is not uncommon to see skiers with gloves that convert into mittens. The grip remains optimal. They are also perfect for a quieter outing, with a lower level of intensity. In polar conditions, lobster claw glovesare really welcome. They retain the heat perfectly and insulate the hands from the wind and weather. They are a wise choice for those who prefer leisurely strolls or who take breaks on the edge of the tracks.
