Buyer’s guide for a Men's Cross-Country Ski Jacket:
Staying warm and dry are the main goals of a Nordic ski jacket. But cross-country skiing is a sport that takes a lot of effort, so the body moves a lot and produces sweat. Brands therefore manufacture clothes with breathable fabrics to remove moisture effectively and keep the skier's body dry.
Warm or ultra-breathable?
It all depends on the conditions and intensity you want to adopt during your Nordic skiing session. Warm ski jackets allow you to ski at low intensity without the risk of getting cold. They capture heat generated by your body and keep it inside the fabric. Softshell jackets belong to this category. Generally equipped with a water-resistant coating, they offer effective protection against bad weather.
Ultra-breathable jackets have the advantage of being very light. They are used when conditions are mild or for an intense session. It is important to note that their waterproofing is less effective than a thick softshell jacket. However, they expel moisture much more quickly, to keep the skier’s body at an ideal temperature. Coupled with a ski suit, they are the ideal outfit for more active skiers.
How do you choose the right size cross-country ski jacket?
In cross-country skiing it is important to be able to move easily. This is why the size of clothing must be chosen with certainty. The jackets are designed with stretchy materials so that they adapt perfectly to your movements. Therefore the size of a ski jacket should be close to the body and have a minimum number of creases with tight fitting cuts.
