Description
The Mammut Assist Belay Resistor quickdraw is an assisted-braking device that replaces the first quickdraw in the belay chain. It increases rope friction to help a lighter belayer hold a heavier lead climber’s fall, without replacing standard belaying technique.
Its patented cam design only engages during a fall or when lowering. The rope is never fully locked, allowing you to maintain a dynamic belay and absorb forces progressively. This operation also makes it easier to lower a heavier climber in a controlled manner, while limiting unnecessary handling when rope tension remains normal.
Which ropes is this device compatible with?
It is designed for use with single ropes with a diameter between 8.7 and 11.0 mm.
What is Boost mode for?
In standard mode, the system is used with a quickdraw clipped to the first anchor point. In Boost mode, it attaches directly to the first anchor point with a screwgate carabiner, without a quickdraw. This mode enables faster activation when there is a significant weight difference, up to 45 kg.
Where is the Assist Belay Resistor attached?
It replaces the first quickdraw at the first anchor point. It can engage even when only this first point has been clipped, helping to reduce the risk of a ground fall.
