Description
The Mammut Assist Belay Resistor is an assisted braking device designed for climbing pairs with a significant weight difference between the climber and the belayer. Positioned within the belay chain, it increases rope friction to help a lighter belayer arrest the fall of a heavier lead climber, without replacing standard belaying techniques.
Its patented cam mechanism engages only during a fall or while lowering. The rope is never completely locked, allowing for dynamic belaying and progressive shock absorption. This design also makes it easier to lower a heavier climber in a controlled manner, while minimising unnecessary handling when the rope tension remains normal.
Which ropes is this device compatible with?
It is intended for use with single ropes with a diameter between 8.7 and 11.0 mm.
What is the purpose of the Boost mode?
The Boost mode enables faster activation in cases of large weight differences, up to 45 kg, by attaching the system to the first anchor point using a screwgate carabiner.
Where should the Assist Belay Resistor be attached?
It is attached to the first quickdraw. It can activate even when only this first quickdraw is clipped, helping to reduce the risk of ground falls.
