Description

The Rossignol Premium S3 is considered to be a ski for special conditions, there is some truth in that, but with the seasons we have been experiencing in recent years and the sudden changes in snow due to the global warming, the S3 can be considered an increasingly common ski. Made for warm, dirty and processed snow, it is finally becoming more and more common that we need a ski like this.

What are the characteristics of the Rossignol X-IUM Skating Premium S3 Medium IFP cross-country ski?

The French brand has made several changes to the Premium range. The external structure of the ski has been revised with, in particular, a modification of the edges which pass over a single density unlike the old models. This new structure significantly lightens the ski by eliminating the use of glued materials of two different densities. On snow, this does not cause any major change, the ski is still as reactive underfoot and its grip in skating remains exemplary. The spatula is lighter and reinforced in order to maintain maximum aggressiveness on the support grips while improving the ski's balance at the end of the thrust and during the recovery under the centre of gravity. The heel also benefits from a reinforcement that reduces lateral torsion in order to make the most of the effort of each thrust without any risk of losing grip when skating. The particularity of the S3 of course is that it is adapted to rather hot and dirty snow, so it is equipped with a white K 9001 Wet 2.0 sole and a warm multi-purpose structure. This type of sole limits soiling over the course of kilometres and ensures longer waxing efficiency. It should also be noted that the camber of the S3 is shorter and higher than on the other versions of the Premium. The reason is simple, this ski can be brought to face hot snow with a soft bottom and must absolutely have a higher flotation capacity than the other models. Without this, the spatula will tend to stay planted and the ski will automatically require more physical and technical effort. We opted for a Medium camber because it offers more versatility depending on conditions and adapts to weight ranges that are logical for users of this type of model. The internal construction remains on the same line as on the previous model, with a Nomex shell embedded between two carbon blades. This type of structure ensures dynamism and torsional rigidity, the ski is particularly effective on the relaunch phases where it lets all its punching qualities speak for themselves. As far as assembly is concerned, it is fitted with IFP plates that only fit Turnamic bindings. These bindings are compatible with NNN, Prolink and Turnamic boot standards. The S3 is a super ski for warm, dirty and transformed snow conditions. We see it coming out more and more frequently in the World Cup because its results on this type of snow are clearly superior to those of other models.

Who is the Rossignol X-IUM Skating Premium S3 Medium IFP cross-country ski intended for?

This model is particularly suitable for skiers who already own a pair of "versatile" S2 type skis and who want a pair that performs better on warm snow. In terms of sensations, it is in line with what you would expect from a Rossignol Course ski and offers very good results on compact snow or on soft ground. This is also the advantage of the Medium camber which provides more versatility.
