Description détaillée du produit — Family Tree Smooth Operator

Note: The colour of the bases may be different from the picture displayed on the website, manufacturers combine colours randomly.

The Burton Family Tree Smooth Operator snowboard is a powder weapon from the premium Family Tree construction, designed for maximum lift in deep snow. It is aimed at experienced riders looking for a specialist board rather than an all-mountain quiver-killer.

What is the Burton Family Tree Smooth Operator snowboard designed for?

This is a board dedicated to deep snow: lift, float, a surfy feel, but not built for spending the season on groomers. Its directional shape, with a generous nose and swallowtail, helps it lift naturally in deep powder. The hybrid camber combines camber underfoot for edge hold and pop with rocker at the tips for forgiveness and float. Its Family Tree construction, featuring a reinforced wood core and carbon inserts, makes it responsive and stable at high speed.

Who is the Burton Family Tree Smooth Operator snowboard for?

  • Riders looking for a specialist powder board rather than a versatile all-rounder
  • Powder hunters

Choose it if powder is your priority. Avoid it if you are after a park board.

What are the main strengths of the Burton Family Tree Smooth Operator snowboard?

Float

Edge grip

Speed

Why does the Smooth Operator have a swallowtail?

This swallowtail, combined with a high-volume nose, helps the board lift naturally and float in deep snow rather than sinking.

Is the Family Tree Smooth Operator part of an eco-responsible Burton range?

Yes, it belongs to the Family Tree range, which Burton positions as its most responsible collection in terms of materials.

What is the difference between the Family Tree Smooth Operator and the Fish 3D?

Both float well in powder thanks to a fish-like shape, but the Smooth Operator is stiffer and aimed at advanced to expert riders, whereas the Fish 3D is softer, more approachable, and designed for fun ahead of outright performance.

Tips and advice

The length of your board is extremely important. Several parameters have to be taken into account : Your height, your weight, your level and your program (allmountain-freeride-freestyle). We created a calculator that will tell you what size of board would suit you best, once you've completed these parameters. You can also call us (+33 4 73 26 98 47) to get a personal advice from our experienced team.
The snowboards you'll purchase on our website are all factory waxed and tuned. That means it's ready to hit the slopes. However, that doesn't work forever, and in order to keep your equipment at the top performance, you need to maintain base and edges on a regular basis.
Maintaining your skis is essential to ensure an optimal glide and grip. Frequency of maintenance may vary depending on how often you use your board, or on how damaged it is. We recommend that you wax it every 10 riding days, and at the end of the season. Edges need to be tuned up to 2 times per season if you want to keep a good edge control. However, don't get them overtuned because every tuning takes some of the steel off.

When your base is damaged and shows shallow scratches or rock gouge, it is possible to repair it.

You can get these repairs done by professional ski shop, or if the gouge is only superficial you may repair it yourself. To do so, you will need special tools and materials such as wax, Ptex for repairing bases, edge tuners, etc. You can find them on our website.
