Which Salomon MTN ski should you choose: 86, 91 or 96 mm?

Waist width increases from 86 to 96 mm. The two 86 mm models keep weight and the surface area that needs to be moved during kick turns to a minimum. The MTN 91 Carbon provides additional support in variable snow, while the MTN 96 Carbon delivers greater float as snow depth increases. MTN 86 Pro or MTN 86 Carbon: the same width, different constructions

The MTN 86 Pro and MTN 86 Carbon share an 86 mm waist, but they are not simply two specification levels of the same ski. The Pro uses a karuba and poplar core with basalt fibres. The Carbon is built around a Full Karuba core combined with carbon and basalt reinforcements.

Salomon MTN 86 Pro: an approachable, well-balanced construction

The Salomon MTN 86 Pro is designed for all-round ski touring. Its 86 mm waist limits the width that needs to be manoeuvred during kick turns while providing more support than a very narrow touring ski when the snow gets deeper.

The karuba and poplar core is reinforced with basalt fibres. A titanal reinforcement strengthens the binding mounting area. Camber underfoot contributes to edge hold on firm snow, while tip rocker makes turn initiation and pivoting easier in more uneven conditions.

Its Full Karuba core is combined with carbon and basalt fibres. Camber underfoot maintains grip on firm snow, while tip and tail rocker make pivoting and changing direction easier. The Cork Damplifier insert helps absorb some vibrations.

The Summit Pure offers greater support with a 90 flex and uses a BOA system combined with the Touring Belt to wrap around the instep.
