How to Put Together an Effective Women's Ski Outfit?
When putting together your ski or snowboard outfit, two factors help guide your choice: your skill level and your activity. For instance, if you ski on-piste once a year, you won't need the same equipment as someone who regularly engages in freeride or ski touring. Of course, what doesn't change are your measurements, which you should know to choose the right size. At Glisshop, you'll easily find what suits you among the various brands. And don't worry, you'll also enjoy picking out a stylish look, as the women's ski clothing corner is as rich and varied as a fashion store.
A Ski Jacket, Trousers, and You're Good to Go?
Before hitting the slopes, it's crucial to understand a simple principle for staying warm in the snow and putting together an effective ski outfit: the three-layer system. The first layer provides softness and comfort, the second takes care of warmth, while the third acts as a shield against the elements and snowfall.
High-Performance Technical Base Layers
For the first layer, you'll need a long-sleeve top for the upper body and tights or leggings for the lower body. There are different types available, some made from synthetic fibres, others from natural merino wool, or a blend of both. The fabric is always optimised for maximum softness, and flat seams prevent uncomfortable chafing. While base layers need to be warm, they also need to be breathable to wick sweat away and keep you dry. That's why Glisshop strongly advises against cotton. Although it absorbs moisture well, it dries very slowly, leading to discomfort and a sensation of being cold. Best to avoid it.
Ski Jacket, Down Jacket, Fleece: What's the Best Combination?
To enjoy proper warmth, you can choose between fleeces and down jackets. Many are now made from recycled materials, as seen with brands like Picture, Patagonia, and Norrona. They all offer excellent value for money. Their lightweight nature and attractive colours are among their strengths. These second layers are warm, designed to protect you from the cold and retain your body heat. You can also find fleeces made from merino wool. Although slightly heavier than synthetic fibres, merino wool is incredibly soft and excels at keeping you dry and warm. Another advantage is that, unlike down and feathers used in some down jackets, merino wool remains insulating even when wet. To convince you further, merino wool is naturally antibacterial, meaning no more unpleasant odours, unlike synthetic fibres.
Waterproof Outer Layer and Women's Ski Jackets
The third and final layer of your ski outfit is a technical jacket, with a membrane such as a Gore-Tex. It must be waterproof to keep you dry when it snows or rains. It also needs to be breathable to wick away sweat and prevent you from feeling like you're in a sauna. In addition to being technologically advanced, women's ski jackets come in a wide range of colours and designs, each more unique than the last.
Many Ski Clothing Brands
Don't wait any longer to find the perfect sporty and feminine outfit from the many brands Glisshop has established strong relationships with over the years: Burton, Colmar, Icepeak, DC, Degré 7, Dynafit, Eivy, Millet, Protest, Rossignol, Roxy, Scott, Sun Valley, Superdry, Volcom, and many more.
