What is the maximum recommended weight for a hiking backpack?
The French hiking federation recommends not exceeding 20% of your own body weight. For instance, a 55 kg (8.66 st) woman can carry a pack of up to 11 kg, while an 80 kg (12.6) man should avoid carrying a pack over 16 kg.
While for many people, hiking isn’t a sport, training to walk often is recommended before setting off on a multi-day adventure (backpacking trip, trek…). During this preparation, we advise you to make the distances progressively longer and wear a pack that is increasingly more loaded. Because comfort is key so that hiking remains pleasant, take only what you need. A few kilograms can have a real impact after multiple hours of walking, even over the course of several days.
Taking care of your Deuter backpack
Caring for your Deuter backpack is essential to make it last longer. To clean it, we recommend avoiding machine washing it, rather hand wash it with standard soap.
When you’re not using it, store your pack in a dry place, away from the sun preferably, to prevent the material from losing its colour.
