It became known for its strong environmental commitment as early as the late 1980s, long before it became a trend. Eco-friendly backpack manufacturing
Like all the products it develops, Patagonia strives to reduce the environmental footprint of its backpack production. This includes using recycled fibres, such as recycled ripstop polyester certified by Bluesign, ensuring that chemicals, processes, materials, and products are safe for the environment, workers, and us as consumers.
Additionally, many of Patagonia's technical fabrics are treated with a DWR finish to repel water and protect against moisture. The issue with traditional water-repellent finishes used in the industry is that they often contain non-biodegradable chemicals harmful to the environment. Patagonia has worked to reduce their use, finding an effective and environmentally friendly alternative.
