Alpine Ski K2 Potion 98 TI

Ski sold without binding.

As incredible as it sounds, it's been 10 years since K2 first began working on women-specific skis. The Alliance series was for many years a flagship in the industry but this is about to change with the Potion all-mountain series coming out for 2015.

All-mountain, yes, but going for the Potion 98 TI means going for a freeride all-mountain ski. Its 98mm waist and All-Mountain rocker deliver high powder performance while the Hybritech sidewalls and the traditional camber provides edge grip and reactivity. The Metal Laminate wrapping the woodcore turns this ski into a powerful freeride gun more than an alpine racer.

What our testers say : This is a freerider and it makes no doubt. Intended for advanced and expert women skiers looking for a powerful and responsive ski that can handle high speed with ease. From construction to shape, engineers made no mistakes and the ski should definitely meet the needs of the most demanding freeriders out there.

Structure - Construction

  • Hybritech sidewalls  :

This wider-waisted construction combines the accuracy and power performance of sidewall underfoot with the lightweight and smooth turn initiation of cap construction. Offered exclusively on the Side series, Hybritech makes skis strong, accurate and powerful underfoot, while maintaining smooth initiation and easy exits from turns.

  • Poplar/Paulownia/Maple core  :

Wood cores have been used in the ski industry for ages. They deliver stability and rebound while killing vibrations. They're extremely durable.

  • Metal Laminate Technology  :

Built with two sheets of lightweight Titanal running the length of the ski, metal-laminate skis are the highest performing and most complex construction available from K2. Built from the base up, a metal laminate construction consists of alternating layers of fiberglass and Titanal above and below the wood core. Metal-laminates provide dampened, accurate, unshakable performance ideal for expert-level skiers.

Camber type

  • Classic camber  :

When the ski sits flat on the ground, the tip and the tail are in contact with it while the midsection rises above. It is this section that maximises the energy transmission towards the edge, ideal for piste skiing. It also provides a rebound which enhances energy return and pop.

Technology

  • All-Terrain Rocker  :

All-Terrain Rocker features an elevated tip for variable and soft snow performance, as well as camber underfoot for power, energy, and edge-hold in firmer conditions.

Simply put, All-Terrain Rocker offers versatility and ease in all snow conditions.

Rocker type

  • Tip and tail rocker  :

Full length rocker perfect for surfing powder. It floats easily and ensures smooth and effortless turns. Landings are easier too.

Various

  • Tapered Tip  :

The widest point of the tip is further back on the ski, which reduces the weight of the tip and the resistance of it in soft snow.
