K2 all-mountain: a freer feel without giving up control
A K2 all-mountain ski is not simply designed to replicate the behaviour of a piste ski with extra width. The brand generally favours a less locked-in ride, with skis that are easy to pivot and capable of adapting to changes in terrain and snow quality. This approach suits skiers who like to vary their lines, move from groomed snow to chopped-up sections and make use of the piste edges without having to constantly muscle the ski.
This freedom does not mean that all K2 models are soft or forgiving. Some constructions offer a firmer feel, aimed at skiers who drive the ski harder and want edge hold when speed increases. Others prioritise a lighter, more progressive behaviour. Your choice should therefore be based as much on the construction as on the waist width.
Choosing between manoeuvrability and support underfoot
If most of your skiing is on piste, it is best to choose a model with a moderate width, quick enough from edge to edge and easy to steer on firm snow. If you regularly venture onto the sides of the pistes, into bumps or through already tracked-out snow, a wider ski with a more progressive profile will make things easier.
Your build and skiing style should also guide the decision. A lighter or less physical skier will benefit more from a ski that flexes easily and does not require a lot of pressure to turn. A powerful skier, used to accelerating through chopped-up snow, will need more support to prevent the ski from becoming vague when the terrain gets rough.
