Description

The Arva Evo 5 avalanche beacon is a revolution in itself. Way more compact than the previous model with only 11 by 7 cm, it is also lighter, weighing only 170 g. Arva is known for innovating, it shakes things up by offering the Evo 5 with a carrying belt with a strap to attach the device. It will be easy to slide the beacon in one of the pockets of your ski pants. A holster is also available, sold separately. 

A particularly noticeable change is the shape of the Evo 5. The R&D team went for a 3 position triangle-shaped switch, secured by a push button on the top. This prevents you from changing modes by accident. With a backlit display and built-in speaker that emits a precise sound, the Evo 5 efficiently guides you to the burial area. As a worthy successor to the Evo 4, it stands out with its ease of use, the option to mark multiple victims, Group Check, as well as the self-test when you turn it on. 

What are the assets of the Arva Evo 5? 

Key factor to quickly find victims, the search strip width of the Evo 5 is 50 m. It also features a function to manage electromagnetic interference generated by other devices such as smartphones of walky-talkies. It can detect a second avalanche thanks to a timer or motion sensor or both. This way, the Evo 5 automatically switches to send mode if you are buried under an avalanche while searching for victims. All these functions can be activated or disabled in the settings of the beacon. 

What to do in case of an avalanche? 

To find a buried person, switch to receive mode. A simple push on the button allows to change the mode. Once the direction and distance are displayed on the backlit screen, simply follow the instructions calmy. The Evo 5 guides you with arrows up to the 3 m area. From there, the arrows disappear to let you do the final search in a cross pattern, as close as possible from the ground. Then, use the probe and finally dig out the victim. 

How does the multi-victim mode work? 

If multiple people are buried, the Evo 5 automatically displays icons for each victim. Once the first one is located, you can use the marking function to search for the next victim while your team mates are digging.
