Marker structures its range around several binding families, each with clearly defined characteristics. Models designed for alpine, freestyle and freeride skiing focus on retention and power transmission, while pin bindings prioritise mobility and low weight for ski touring. Between the two, Marker develops hybrid solutions for skiers who want to reach their chosen lines using climbing skins while retaining downhill performance closer to that of an alpine binding.
With the X Series, Marker offers versions of its Griffon and Jester that place the skier closer to the ski. The Griffon X and Jester X feature a low stand height and compact construction to promote direct power transfer and quicker edge changes. This design is aimed particularly at freeride and freestyle skiing.
The Griffon X is one of the most versatile options in this family, while the Jester X is intended for skiers looking for a binding capable of handling more demanding use. These models complement the Griffon and Jester bindings already firmly established within Marker's freeride range.
For ski touring, Marker offers the Cruise, a pin binding developed with a particular focus on ease of use. Its ergonomic design makes stepping in and transitioning between uphill and downhill modes easier. The different heel lift positions also allow support to be adapted to the gradient.
The Cruise also stands out through its choice of materials. Marker uses recycled or bio-based plastics for various binding components to reduce reliance on conventional fossil-based plastics.
The Marker Alpinist Free is designed for freetouring, where a balance must be struck between uphill efficiency and downhill ski performance. It retains the pin system of the Alpinist family while adopting a configuration geared more towards the descent.
Marker notably uses a Performance Booster that increases the contact area between the binding and the ski for more effective power distribution. The Alpinist Free therefore combines a lightweight construction suited to the ascent with improved power transfer on the descent.
The Marker Kingpin range also holds an important place in the brand's touring collection. It combines a pin toe piece with a heel unit designed to provide greater retention on the descent. Its positioning makes it ideal for skiers who place particular importance on the downhill performance of their skis.
The Marker Duke PT uses a different design from conventional touring bindings. Its Ride & Hike system uses pins for the ascent, while the upper section of the toe piece can be refitted to provide the operation of an alpine toe piece on the descent.
This architecture makes it a hybrid binding primarily intended for freeriding and for skiers who use touring as a way to access more demanding lines. The Duke PT therefore prioritises downhill performance over achieving the lowest possible weight for the ascent.
Marker also remains active in ski racing with its Comp range. These bindings are developed to meet the demands of competitive skiing, with different models suited to each skier's ability and build.
The choice of binding primarily depends on the discipline, the type of ski boot used, the ski and the skier's ability level. An alpine binding such as the Griffon or Jester meets the demands of resort skiing, freestyle and freeride. A pin binding such as the Cruise or Alpinist is better suited to skiers who prioritise touring and uphill efficiency. The Kingpin and Duke PT, meanwhile, are positioned more towards freetouring and downhill performance.
You should also consider compatibility with your ski boots, the binding's adjustment range and the brake width in relation to the ski's waist. When touring, Marker ski touring binding crampons can complement your equipment when the snow hardens or when the climbing skins no longer provide sufficient grip.
The history of Marker began in 1952 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany, when Hannes Marker founded the brand and introduced the Duplex, one of the first bindings designed around a release system intended to improve skier safety. This work on release mechanisms quickly became one of the brand's guiding principles as it supported the development of alpine skiing and racing over the following decades.
Marker gradually broadened its horizons. In 2007, the launch of the Duke marked its arrival in the world of freeride, soon followed by the Jester, Griffon and Squire, brought together within the Royal Family. The brand then turned its attention to ski touring with the Tour F10 and F12 before developing the Kingpin, the Alpinist and, more recently, the Duke PT, which combines a pin system for the ascent with a construction geared more towards downhill performance.
This evolution reflects Marker's commitment to developing bindings for an increasingly diverse range of disciplines, from racing and freestyle to freeride and ski touring. The brand also continues to refine its product design, notably with the Cruise, for which it uses recycled or bio-based materials in several components.
Marker works with an international team of skiers involved in a wide variety of disciplines. The brand is represented in racing, freestyle, freeride, ski touring and all-mountain skiing. This diversity directly reflects the breadth of its binding range.
Marker's involvement with athletes skiing across a wide variety of terrain and conditions also allows the brand to put its products to the test in demanding situations.
This close relationship with professional skiers is an integral part of Marker's development process and helps its various binding families evolve in line with the specific requirements of each discipline.
