Lange Ski Boots
The Lange ski boot range caters for different needs in terms of volume, support and performance. The Concept models prioritise easy entry and exit together with a generous boot volume, without being limited to beginner skiers. The Shadow are aimed more at precision and dynamism on piste and all-mountain, with LV, MV or HV boot volume versions. The RS models adopt a more close-fitting shape and direct power transfer, while the junior versions support children as they progress. To choose the right pair, start by identifying your boot volume, then match the flex to your ability, build and style of skiing. Finally, check the fastening system, as only certain Lange boots are fitted with BOA.

Which Lange ski boot should you choose?
Start with the boot volume: LV for a close, supportive fit, MV for an intermediate volume, HV for more room, or Comfort Volume for the more generous approach of the Concept range. Then select the flex according to your level, build and the intensity of your use. A high flex will never make up for a shell that is too wide or too narrow.
Range | Main use | Boot volume | Features |
|---|---|---|---|
Concept | Comfort, versatility and easy entry | Comfort Volume, generous | Varied flex ratings, BOA closure or buckles depending on the model |
Shadow | Sporty skiing on piste and all-mountain | LV, MV or HV | Precise hold, progressive energy transfer and consistent flex |
Code | Committed freeskiing and varied terrain | LV or MV | Closer or roomier fit depending on the version |
RS | Performance and precision | Close-fitting | Direct power transfer |
Junior | Learning and children’s progression | Fit suited to young skiers | Soft to medium flexes and evolving support |
Concept: Lange’s comfort-led choice with easy entry
The Concept range stands out for its generous boot volume and a shell designed to make it easier to get the foot in and out. It is available with several flex ratings, so it is by no means just a ski boot for beginners.
The fastening system varies depending on the version. Some Concept models combine BOA with two buckles, while others retain a buckle construction. The Concept 12 BOA illustrates the most performance-oriented set-up: it comes with a 103 mm boot volume, a 120 flex, BOA closure and two buckles. Easy Entry & Exit, Comfort Profile Tongue, Suspension Blade, Dual Core and GripWalk soles complete the range.
Shadow: alpine performance in LV, MV or HV
The Shadow models are designed for sporty skiing on piste and all-mountain. Before comparing flex ratings, choose the volume: LV for a narrow fit, MV for an intermediate wrap and HV to allow more room in the forefoot and often over the instep.
The range is designed to deliver progressive power transfer and consistent flex. For example, on the Shadow 110 HV, it combines a wide-foot boot volume with Dual Pivot and Suspension Blade technologies, designed to improve energy transmission from the cuff to the shell.
Code: Lange’s freeski-oriented range
The Code models are aimed at freeskiing, with designs intended for committed skiing in resorts and on varied terrain. The range includes several models, with different volumes and flex ratings. A Code LV is intended to provide a closer fit, while a Code MV leaves more room.
How do you choose between LV, MV, HV and Comfort Volume?
LV stands for Low Volume. This fit is primarily suited to slim feet looking for comfort, and to skiers with medium-width feet who want precise support, provided it does not create painful pressure. See the ski boots for narrow feet to compare the available alternatives.
MV stands for Medium Volume. It offers an intermediate compromise, but it does not by itself guarantee a suitable fit. Medium-width feet will feel comfortable in it, while wider feet will get maximum precision in power transmission.
HV stands for High Volume: the shell offers more room in the forefoot and generally over the instep as well. The selection of ski boots for wide feet makes it easier to identify the relevant models.
Comfort Volume is the term used on the Concept range for a more generous approach. This designation does not indicate a beginner level or a soft flex: it first and foremost describes the internal space. Width in millimetres remains a reference measurement given for a standard size. It is not enough on its own to describe heel shape, instep height or cuff volume.
BOA or buckles on a Lange boot?
BOA is fitted to some Concept models and some other range references, but not all Lange boots. Its cable allows progressive, highly precise and evenly distributed adjustment of the shell, all in a single movement. Buckles remain useful for adjusting different zones separately and keeping simple fastening reference points. They are very reliable and allow accurate adjustments.
The choice between BOA ski boots and buckle models comes after the choice of volume. No system can compensate for an unsuitable shell, and BOA also does not replace a good boot volume matched to your foot.
Which Lange boots for children?
The RSJ 50 and Starlet 50 use a 50 flex. The RSJ 50 has a Junior Fit and three buckles, while the Starlet 50 uses four. Their softer cuff is suited to small sizes and learning. The RSJ 60 and Starlet 60 move up to a 60 flex and four buckles. They provide more support for taller, heavier children or those able to drive the front of the boot. Find a more precise selection among the Lange children’s ski boots.
