The first thing we recommend is opting for new ski boots. While it may be easy to think that we, as retailers, are pushing for new equipment, this isn’t the reason we suggest going new. For skis, we’d have no problem recommending second-hand options, but for ski boots—especially for children—our experience tells us to be cautious. The benefit of new boots is that they haven't been worn yet, meaning there’s no risk of any deformation. They will conform perfectly to your child’s foot, providing maximum comfort and better ski control. Naturally, the choice also depends on your child’s foot shape, skill level, and what they want to do: pure piste skiing, occasionally venturing into powder, trying out freestyle in the terrain park, or heading off-piste for freeride... That’s why we offer a wide selection of models designed specifically for children, combining comfort and safety.
To help you choose the right pair, here are some key elements to consider:
- Flex: The flex of a ski boot is important to consider. Boots with a flex that’s too stiff can limit your child’s mobility, while a boot that’s too soft may not provide enough support. The ideal flex depends on your child’s level and how often they ski.
- Closure systems: They should be easy to use so kids can adjust their boots themselves and make further adjustments throughout the day. Straps are simple to handle. Buckles, while more technical, offer a more precise fit. Since children learn quickly, they’ll soon be able to adjust the boots with your help or that of their ski instructors. Once they get the hang of it, it’ll be child’s play—literally!
- Insulation: Good insulation is key to keeping feet warm all day long. Kids' ski boots come with padded liners, some of which feature high-quality insulating materials to retain heat without compromising comfort.
- Durability: Some children can be rough with their gear. Fortunately, ski boots are made from durable materials to withstand bumps and falls. They’re tough enough to last several seasons while maintaining consistent performance.
- Adaptability: Some models, such as those by Dalbello, previously featured extendable shells and adjustable soles to accommodate growing feet. While innovative, the brand hasn’t continued with this feature, and no other brand has developed similar boots, so we’re unable to offer them at this time.

How to Choose the Right Size Ski Boots for Children?
Getting the right size is crucial for ensuring your child spends enjoyable days on the slopes. If their boots are too small or too big, cause discomfort, or don’t fit their feet and ankles properly, it could hinder their learning or enjoyment, whether they’re with you or in ski school. The Mondopoint system measures foot length in millimetres (mm) and helps you choose the correct size. Make sure your child’s foot is measured accurately, ideally at the end of the day when feet are slightly swollen, simulating the conditions they may experience on the slopes.
Practical Tips for Fitting
- Make sure your child wears ski socks during the fitting, as they’re generally thicker and taller than regular socks.
- Ensure that your child’s toes only lightly touch the end of the boot, allowing for sufficient space.
- Check that the boots are neither too tight nor too loose, allowing a fit that provides support without restricting blood circulation.

- Listen to your child: Their feedback is often a good indicator. If they complain of discomfort during the fitting or after the first day on the slopes, it’s a sign the boots may no longer be the right size.
