How do you choose the right size children’s ski boot?
Ski boots use Mondopoint sizing, which corresponds to foot length in centimetres. For example, a Mondopoint size 20.5 is designed for a foot measuring approximately 20.5 cm. UK size equivalents can vary between brands, so it is best to measure both feet and use the larger measurement rather than relying solely on everyday shoe size.
The children’s category also includes models described as ‘junior’ by manufacturers. This term may cover ski boots for young children, teenagers or performance-focused young skiers. It does not correspond to the same age or size limit across every brand. Some junior models therefore extend to sizes close to those of adult ski boots, while retaining a shell, cuff, flex or liner designed for younger, lighter skiers. Your choice should consequently take Mondopoint size into account, as well as the skier’s weight, ability level and the boot’s construction.

What flex should you choose for children’s ski boots?
Flex refers to the stiffness of the shell. It is not always specified on models intended for the youngest skiers. The shell is generally designed to remain compliant and forgiving, making it easier to apply pressure and control the equipment. On more technical junior ski boots, flex becomes a key selection criterion: it must suit the young skier’s weight, ability level and style of skiing. A higher flex rating is not necessarily better.
Closure systems: zips, buckles and clips
Ski boots for the youngest children usually feature one large buckle that is easy to operate, even while wearing gloves. As the child grows, models progress to two and then three buckles, followed by teenage ski boots with three or four full-size buckles, like those found on adult boots, sometimes combined with a power strap.
Please note: Fischer offers a ski boot for young children with a waterproof zip closure, allowing the boot to open wide for exceptionally easy entry.
Girls’ and boys’ ski boots

A few tips before buying
Choose new ski boots rather than second-hand ones: an unworn boot will adapt to the shape of your child’s foot without having already been moulded or distorted by a previous wearer. Remember to try them on with ski socks, which are thicker and taller than ordinary socks. Check the size before every season too, as children’s feet grow quickly, sometimes more than expected between two winters.
