How to choose your après-ski boots
Après-ski boots keep your feet warm and dry after a day on the slopes, when moving around the resort or during winter activities. To choose the right model, consider insulation, waterproofing, grip, cuff height and support.

What should you look for before buying snow boots?
A good winter boot should not just be warm. Its specifications need to match the conditions you will encounter, how long you will wear it for and the type of walking you plan to do.
Thermal insulation
The level of insulation determines the boot’s ability to retain warmth when temperatures drop. Models may use a wool, fleece or synthetic lining, or a removable insulated inner boot.
For short walks around the resort, moderate insulation may be enough. If you are staying outside for long periods, playing in the snow or dealing with very low temperatures, opt for a high-cut boot with a thick lining.
Waterproofing and snow resistance
A warm boot quickly becomes uncomfortable if moisture gets inside. For walking in fresh, deep or slushy snow, look for a waterproof construction, a protective membrane or a rubber lower section.
Bear in mind, however, that a water-repellent boot is not necessarily waterproof. A simply water-repellent model may be suitable for short journeys around the resort, but will be less appropriate for extended walking in wet snow.
Outsole grip
The outsole must provide good stability on packed snow and cold ground. A thick, flexible, heavily lugged rubber sole generally improves traction on snowy paths.
No outsole, however, can guarantee perfect grip on smooth ice. In these conditions, removable ice grips may still be necessary.
Cuff height
Low-cut ankle boots are lightweight, easy to put on and practical for urban use or short trips. High-cut boots offer better protection against deep snow and help prevent snow from getting in around the ankle.
For children, snow play or stays in resorts with heavy snowfall, a higher cuff is generally the more suitable choice.
Support and closure system
Laces allow precise adjustment, but can be less practical when wearing gloves. Zip, hook-and-loop, drawcord and slip-on models are quicker to get on. They are particularly suitable for children and users who prioritise simplicity.
