Product description — Velvet

Note: The colour of the bases may be different from the picture displayed on the website, manufacturers combine colours randomly.

The Gnu Velvet snowboard is a well-balanced all-mountain freestyle board, designed to combine turns, tricks, and natural terrain features. This women’s snowboard prioritizes control and stability while maintaining enough agility to vary your stance throughout the mountain.

What is the Gnu Velvet snowboard designed for?

The Gnu Velvet is a freestyle-oriented all-mountain board that can be ridden anywhere on the mountain, from trails to features, without ever forcing you to choose your terrain. The asymmetrical shape takes into account the fact that the heelside and toeside require different muscle engagement, making carving and weight shifts feel more natural. The W Rocker profile—which Gnu calls C2—combines a central rocker with camber under each foot, resulting in a board that remains forgiving and maneuverable while still offering responsive handling in turns. Stability is clearly the strong point of this design. Even at sustained speeds on a slightly bumpy run, the Velvet stays planted underfoot.

Who is the Gnu Velvet snowboard designed for?

The Gnu Velvet is designed for intermediate to advanced female snowboarders looking for a playful board capable of helping them progress both on the slopes and in the park.

  • Riders who switch between features, kickers, and runs without wanting to own multiple boards
  • Snowboarders who are improving their freestyle skills while continuing to explore the mountain
  • Riders who appreciate a board built for a woman’s frame: flex and geometry calibrated for lighter riders—not just a colorful variation of a unisex model

A top choice if you want a versatile board with a true freestyle identity.

Avoid this if you’re looking for a board geared toward powder or big moguls.

What are the main features of the Gnu Velvet snowboard?

Playfulness

What’s the benefit of Magne-Traction on the Gnu Velvet?

The additional contact zones improve control on hardpack and make traverses safer when traction becomes inconsistent.

Is the base of the Gnu Velvet easy to maintain?

Yes, the Co-Ex base holds up well to regular use and requires little maintenance.

What’s the difference between the Gnu Velvet and the Gnu Gloss?

The Velvet focuses more on the stability and balance of its asymmetrical shape, while the Gloss is a twin-tip board geared more toward jibbing, spins, and kickers.

Tips and advice

Size of your board?

The length of your board is extremely important. Several parameters have to be taken into account : Your height, your weight, your level and your program (allmountain-freeride-freestyle). We created a calculator that will tell you what size of board would suit you best, once you've completed these parameters. You can also call us (+33 4 73 26 98 47) to get a personal advice from our experienced team.
The snowboards you'll purchase on our website are all factory waxed and tuned. That means it's ready to hit the slopes. However, that doesn't work forever, and in order to keep your equipment at the top performance, you need to maintain base and edges on a regular basis.
Maintaining your skis is essential to ensure an optimal glide and grip. Frequency of maintenance may vary depending on how often you use your board, or on how damaged it is. We recommend that you wax it every 10 riding days, and at the end of the season. Edges need to be tuned up to 2 times per season if you want to keep a good edge control. However, don't get them overtuned because every tuning takes some of the steel off.

When your base is damaged and shows shallow scratches or rock gouge, it is possible to repair it.

You can get these repairs done by professional ski shop, or if the gouge is only superficial you may repair it yourself. To do so, you will need special tools and materials such as wax, Ptex for repairing bases, edge tuners, etc. You can find them on our website.
