The K2 Gateway Pop is the approachable freeride board in the K2 line-up: a directional shape designed for heading beyond groomed runs and exploring the back country, without demanding expert-level skills to enjoy it. It is aimed at riders who want a forgiving, stable snowboard that can venture into powder with excellent float.

What is the K2 Gateway Pop snowboard designed for?

The K2 Gateway Pop is a versatile board with a freeride bias: it is in its element in powder and big-mountain conditions while still retaining solid performance on groomed snow. The directional shape means there is a clearly defined nose and tail with a setback stance, giving it commitment through turns and in powder, where a twin shape would be less effective. The flat camber is a profile that maintains continuous contact with the snow along the full length of the board, resulting in smooth turn initiation and precise handling without excessive twitchiness.

Is the K2 Gateway Pop comfortable in powder?

Yes, it is one of its natural playgrounds. The directional shape, with a longer nose than tail, helps the board lift in deep snow, making it noticeably more intuitive to handle in powder.

How does the K2 Gateway Pop behave when carving on piste?

The edge grip is solid and the board is easy to steer without feeling nervous, thanks to the combination of the flat camber and Hybritech construction, which reduces inertia at the tips and optimises turn entry.

Can you ride the K2 Gateway Pop switch?

The directional shape of the Gateway Pop is not designed for switch riding: the board is clearly more comfortable in its natural riding direction. A few occasional tricks are possible, but if switch is part of your everyday riding, a twin-tip board will be a better match for your expectations.

Tips and advice

Size of your board?

The length of your board is extremely important. Several parameters have to be taken into account : Your height, your weight, your level and your program (allmountain-freeride-freestyle). We created a calculator that will tell you what size of board would suit you best, once you've completed these parameters. You can also call us (+33 4 73 26 98 47) to get a personal advice from our experienced team.
The snowboards you'll purchase on our website are all factory waxed and tuned. That means it's ready to hit the slopes. However, that doesn't work forever, and in order to keep your equipment at the top performance, you need to maintain base and edges on a regular basis.
Maintaining your skis is essential to ensure an optimal glide and grip. Frequency of maintenance may vary depending on how often you use your board, or on how damaged it is. We recommend that you wax it every 10 riding days, and at the end of the season. Edges need to be tuned up to 2 times per season if you want to keep a good edge control. However, don't get them overtuned because every tuning takes some of the steel off.

When your base is damaged and shows shallow scratches or rock gouge, it is possible to repair it.

You can get these repairs done by professional ski shop, or if the gouge is only superficial you may repair it yourself. To do so, you will need special tools and materials such as wax, Ptex for repairing bases, edge tuners, etc. You can find them on our website.
