Mammut

Mammut is a brand founded in Dintikon, Switzerland by Kaspar Tanner in 1862. Before becoming the mountaineering brand we know today, it was a small-scale rope factory that took its pachyderm-inspired name in 1943. Since 1982, it’s part of the Zurcher Ziegelein group, now Conzzeta. With subsidiaries in France, Germany, Norway, United-States and Japan, the small company has grown and now stands as a mountain safety gear and apparel specialist, notably with its Barryvox avalanche beacon, a benchmark when it comes to avalanche transceivers. Still manufacturing climbing ropes in Switzerland, Mammut has been able to develop into a major player of the skiing, hiking, climbing and mountaineering industry with technical apparel, hiking footwear, backpacks, airbag packs, etc.

Jackets, downs, trousers… Durable mountain clothing

A few years ago, the brand has initiated major changes to reduce its environmental footprint. The goal is to no longer rely on polluting chemicals, notably the ones used to make garments water repellent. It is committed to choosing recycled materials, using only organic cotton and responsible wool, meticulously checking their origins, while making sure the working conditions of those manufacturing the products are fair. Airbag backpacks approved by mountain professionals

In addition to developing products with pro skiers, as well as collaboratively with guides and rescue teams, Mammut has them test the gear in intensive conditions. That’s how some backpacks and items avalanche safety equipment are put to the test to make sure they’re reliable and easy to use. These airbag backpacks feature ergonomic carrying systems, guaranteeing great freedom of movement to live a unique experience in the backcountry.

Nirvana range (18 L or 30 L)

The Nirvana pack is an ergonomic and compact backpack, designed for ski touring. It enables to carry the bare minimum for your safety. Lightweight, it offers great range of motion and allows to move freely. Its water repellent finish makes its waterproof. Water and snow are not longer an issue.

In addition, the airbag system is capable of inflating in case of an avalanche to keep you on the surface and prevent you from getting buried. Additionally, it can turn into a survival bag. This system is also removable, allowing to transfer it from various packs (Removable Airbag System).

Lithium range (20, 25 or 30L)

The Lithium range of Mammut backpacks is ideal for hiking. Available in 20 L, 25 L or 30 L, there’s a model for every need. With numerous compartments and outside pockets, you can keep your phone, key, bottle and snacks on hand, no need to take your pack off. They’re also compatible with water bladders, very handy to stay hydrated. The lightweight EVA padding is very breathable, providing optimal comfort on your entire hike.

Aenergy range

Available in 12L, 18L and 32L, backpacks from the Aenergy range cover a wide range of mountain activities. Lightweight and compact, the first two models are designed for fast hiking. With a PFC-free water repellent finish, they keep your gear dry, no matter the conditions. They’re designed with a high percentage of recycled materials and bear the Fair Wear label.

On the other hand, the Mammut Aenergy St 32 backpack is meant for challenging mountain conditions. Designed to carry the essential safety equipment for ski touring, freeride skiing and snowboarding or mountaineering. It also features attachment points for your helmet or skis during ascents. Despite its significant capacity, it guarantees good weight distribution, to avoid making you slower on your adventure.

All Mammut’s equipment for freeriding, ski touring, and splitboarding allows to enjoy virgin powder with confidence. It goes without saying that gear isn’t everything. For every backcountry outing, preparation is key, check the forecast, avalanche reports, ask mountains guides, etc.

Repair and Care of Mammut Equipment

Mammut products are designed to withstand the most demanding conditions, but regular care is essential to preserve their performance and extend their lifespan. Sweat, dust, and even sunscreen residues can degrade technical fabrics and ropes, reducing their effectiveness. To prevent this, it is recommended to clean your gear regularly and store it under optimal conditions.

When repairs are needed, Mammut offers tailored solutions such as hiking boot sole replacement or airbag inspections before the winter season. To access these services, simply drop off the clean item at an authorized retailer or submit a request with photos to Mammut’s customer service team.
