Captis and Captis Birdie: a shared construction

The two versions combine a 90 mm waist, a double rocker and a traditional camber. Their semi-cap construction is based on a poplar core combined with fibreglass, with ABS sidewalls. This combination suits an all-mountain setup: enough width to progress in fresh snow, with a profile designed to retain manoeuvrability on groomers or in the side-country.

What is the difference between the Black Crows Captis and the Captis Birdie?

The Captis is available in 172, 178 and 184 cm, which makes it more suited to men. The Captis Birdie, the women’s version, goes down to 154 cm and is offered in 154, 160, 166 and 172 cm lengths. This difference in size range is the main distinction between the two models, as their width, profile and construction are similar.

In both cases, the twin-tip shape and double rocker enhance the ski’s agility and allow for riding switch. With 90 mm underfoot, the Captis sits in the mid-width category: it gives more float in soft snow and at the piste edge than a narrow piste ski, without reaching the widths of Black Crows models that are more freeride-oriented.

Who is the Captis designed for?

Both the Captis and Captis Birdie are aimed at intermediate to advanced skiers. Their main appeal lies in their ability to adapt to different styles of skiing: carved turns on piste, forays into fresh snow, quick direction changes and the odd freestyle session. The Captis is therefore particularly well suited to skiers who favour manoeuvrability and a lively feel rather than a ski designed solely for piste or deep powder.
