Climbing and mountaineering equipment

Camp offers a wide range of climbing equipment. Its R&D department designs everything needed for safe practice: ropes, lanyards, harnesses, carabiners, belay devices, pulleys, ascenders, nuts, quickdraws, descenders, helmets...

The Italian brand also develops specific mountain equipment for ice climbing, via ferrata, as well as mountaineering and glacier trekking.

Backpacks for mountain and high-altitude use

Camp designs various types of packs suitable for hiking, trekking, trail running, alpine climbs, ski touring and climbing… Naturally, some models are versatile and can be used for several outdoor activities. Camp is renowned for the durability of its products, and its backpacks are no exception. They are both robust and lightweight – major assets for outings of varying length. Carrying comfort is also a key factor. Camp backpacks are easily recognised by their practical features, as most of them come equipped with external attachment points: ice axe holder, rope holder, ski holder, pole holder...

Camp Safety

Camp is also known for its range of products developed in collaboration with professionals working at height. Just like its climbing gear, the emphasis is placed on safety, lightness and strength, to meet the needs of even the most experienced climbers.

History of a brand dedicated to outdoor sports and activities

The story of Camp (Conception d’Articles de Montagne Premana) is one of remarkable ascent. It began in 1889 in a wrought-iron workshop in Premana, a village in the heart of the Lombard Pre-Alps. Founded by Nicola Codega, the company specialised in outdoor and height-access equipment. Passed down through generations, each descendant brought innovation – like Antonio, who in 1920 created the brand’s first ice axes.

During the golden age of mountaineering, the brand partnered with Riccardo Cassin (1909–2009), an iconic climbing figure who forged his own pitons. This fruitful collaboration led to the creation of numerous climbing and mountaineering accessories, propelling Camp onto the international stage with innovations such as the first ice axe with a metal shaft in 1969, and ultra-light carabiners in 1987.

At the end of the 20th century, Camp expanded its expertise beyond the Alps with the opening of international subsidiaries and the acquisition of the Cassin brand, consolidating its heritage in mountaineering. The entry into the new millennium was marked by prestigious collaborations and continuous innovation, including the launch of the Camp Safety division, designed to meet the growing demand for safety equipment in height-access work.

Today, after more than a century of existence, the brand celebrates 135 years of rich history, always looking ahead. From Nicola Codega’s workshop to appearances on the Olympic stage, the company has evolved while staying true to its roots – embodying a passion for adventure, innovation, and a love of the mountains.
