Lightyear or Lightyear OTG: what is the difference?

The Julbo Lightyear and Lightyear OTG share a large fit, dual-density foam, a silicone-backed strap and the SuperFlow Pro ventilation system.

The main difference lies in the OTG design, which stands for ‘Over The Glasses’. The Lightyear OTG features extra internal volume and foam shaped to accommodate prescription glasses. It is therefore the preferred choice for skiers and snowboarders who want to keep their glasses on underneath their goggles.

SuperFlow Pro: ventilation that opens on demand

The SuperFlow Pro system is the Lightyear range’s defining feature. The lens can be moved forwards, even while wearing gloves, to create a large opening that disperses heat and moisture more quickly. Once closed, magnets lock the system back into place.

This design is particularly useful during high-output activities, such as ski touring, or whenever the air inside the goggles needs to be refreshed quickly. It works alongside Air Flow ventilation and the anti-fog coating.

Which lens should you choose for Julbo Lightyear goggles?

Lightyear goggles are available with several lens options. Your choice will primarily depend on the range of light levels you need to cover and whether you prefer photochromic or fixed protection.

REACTIV or SPECTRON: which technology should you choose?

REACTIV lenses automatically adjust their tint according to the light level. They are ideal when conditions change throughout the day or when you want a single pair of goggles to cover several levels of brightness.

SPECTRON lenses provide a fixed level of protection. A Spectron 2 lens is better suited to medium light levels, while a Spectron 3 is intended for brighter conditions. They offer a more straightforward solution for skiers who generally ride in predictable weather and light conditions.

Which face shapes are Lightyear goggles suitable for?

Lightyear goggles have a large fit. Their wide lens is therefore primarily intended for broader faces. The frameless construction and spherical lens also provide an expansive field of view.

For prescription-glasses wearers, the Lightyear OTG remains the most suitable option in this range thanks to its OTG design.
