Which Atomic ski boots should you choose?
When choosing Atomic ski boots, you need to consider several factors together: internal volume, flex, the level of support required and the closure system. Foot width is an important initial consideration, but it is not enough on its own. Two boots with the same width can feel different depending on the shape of the instep, heel, cuff and liner.
The width stated in millimetres is generally based on a reference size and may vary according to shell size. It should therefore be used as a guide rather than as a universal specification. Within the Atomic collection, the Hawx range provides a useful benchmark for selecting the right fit volume before narrowing down your choice by flex and closure system.
Which Atomic ski boot flex should you choose for your ability and build?
The flex indicates the stiffness of the boot. A relatively soft flex may suit a lightweight skier, a beginner or anyone looking for greater forgiveness. Hawx: the core of the Atomic ski boot range
The Atomic Hawx range is the brand’s main alpine ski boot collection. It is structured around several fit volumes to accommodate different foot shapes.
Broadly speaking, Hawx Ultra is designed for narrower feet, Hawx Prime offers a medium-volume fit and Hawx Magna caters for wider feet or higher-volume insteps. These three families are then available with different flex ratings, liners and closure systems, depending on the model.
Atomic Remedy for freeskiing
With the Remedy, Atomic caters for skiers seeking a precise and powerful boot for freeriding and aggressive freeskiing. The Remedy 130 combines a flex rating of 130 with a 96 mm last, delivering a snug feel and direct power transfer. Its stiff construction and four-buckle closure prioritise control when the terrain becomes technical or the pace picks up. It is therefore primarily aimed at advanced to expert skiers with sound technique who are looking for an exceptionally precise fit.
BOA, Dual BOA or buckles: which closure should you choose?
Atomic uses several closure systems across its range. Buckles allow different areas of the boot to be adjusted independently. On models fitted with BOA, a dial generally replaces the shell buckles, enabling the tension around the foot to be adjusted quickly and progressively.
Dual BOA uses two separate adjustment systems. Some Atomic ski boots feature this configuration, while others retain a traditional buckle closure system or combine BOA with buckles.
What are the benefits of GripWalk soles?
Many Atomic boots feature GripWalk soles. Their profile makes walking easier and provides better traction than a traditional alpine sole, particularly on hard or slippery surfaces. Ski boots fitted with GripWalk soles must be used with bindings that are compatible with this standard.
What are the benefits of a heat-mouldable liner?
A heat-mouldable liner, found in many Atomic models, improves the overall fit by conforming more precisely to the shape of the foot after heating.
