A wide 103 mm fit at the heart of the BFC range

The common feature across the BFC line is their 103 mm last width. This generous volume mainly makes the range suitable for medium to wide feet and for skiers who prioritise space and comfort over a very close, precise fit.

The flex then changes the level of support. The BFC 75 W and 80 are the softest options, while the BFC 120 Boa and 130 Boa require more commitment. So you should not choose a BFC simply because its fit is comfortable: the flex also needs to match your ability, build and skiing style.

Which K2 BFC should you choose according to flex?

BFC 75 W, 80 and 90: ease of use comes first

The BFC 75 W and BFC 80 have the softest flex ratings in the range. They are aimed at beginner to intermediate skiers looking for their first personal boot with a welcoming fit. Their flex reduces the effort needed to make the boot work and helps you progress.

The BFC 90 follows the same logic but increases support with a flex of 90. It is better suited to skiers who are starting to build more solid edging and want greater hold without immediately moving to a much stiffer boot. All three models retain traditional buckles and a 103 mm last width.

BFC 85 W and 85 Boa W: same flex, two closure systems

The BFC 85 W and BFC 85 Boa W are particularly easy to compare because both offer a flex of 85 and a 103 mm fit. Their main difference lies in the lower shell closure.

The BFC 85 W uses standard micro-adjustable buckles. The BFC 85 Boa W replaces the lower closure with the BOA system, which allows the instep tension to be adjusted using a dial. The upper buckles and power strap keep control of the cuff. The choice therefore depends less on stiffness level than on whether you prefer conventional tightening or BOA-style wrap.

BFC 100 or BFC 100 Boa: 4 buckles or Boa + buckles

The BFC 100 and BFC 100 Boa share a flex of 100 and a 103 mm last width. The main difference is the closure system: the BFC 100 uses standard buckles, while the BFC 100 Boa uses a BOA dial over the instep for faster, more progressive adjustment of hold.

What does the BOA system change on K2 BFC boots?

On the relevant BFC models, the BOA system acts on the lower shell closure. A dial tensions a cable routed around the foot to deliver a snug, micro-adjustable wrap. The upper part of the boot still uses buckles and a power strap so the cuff can be adjusted independently.

The benefit is therefore not limited to saving time when putting the boots on. BOA mainly makes it easier to gradually alter tension across the instep and to release or tighten it without having to undo several buckles separately. However, you should not assume that a BFC Boa is automatically stiffer: the BFC 85 Boa W and BFC 85 W, for example, both have a flex of 85, just as the two BFC 100 models both retain a flex of 100.

BFC 95 Boa W and 105 Boa W: more support for skilled female skiers

The women’s progression continues with the BFC 95 Boa W and BFC 105 Boa W. The first has a flex of 95 and the second rises to 105. Both keep the 103 mm last width and the BOA system, but the 105 demands more input to flex the cuff and transmit pressure.

BFC 110, 120 and 130 Boa: the BFC fit with higher flex ratings

For men, the BFC 110 Boa, BFC 120 Boa and BFC 130 Boa continue the progression in stiffness without giving up the family’s generous fit. The 110 flex remains intermediate in this series, the 120 already asks for more commitment, and the 130 is the stiffest model.

The BFC 130 Boa perfectly illustrates the range’s logic: a high flex rating does not necessarily mean a narrow fit. It still retains 103 mm and is therefore aimed at advanced to expert skiers who want more support while still needing room in the forefoot.

Hands Free Entry, GripWalk and heat-mouldable liners

Ease of use is not based on width alone. The Hands Free Entry technology, found on most BFC models, uses a softer entry zone to make stepping into and out of the boot easier. Heat-mouldable liners then let the fit be progressively adapted to the shape of the foot.

The models in the range also use GripWalk soles. These provide a more walk-friendly profile than a traditional alpine sole.

Which K2 BFC should you choose?

Choosing a BFC starts with foot shape: with 103 mm stated at the last, this range is primarily for skiers who need generous volume. The second criterion is flex. A BFC 75 W or 80 prioritises forgiveness, whereas a BFC 105 Boa W, 120 Boa or 130 Boa demands more technique and power.

Finally, the choice between buckles and BOA is mainly about the kind of adjustment you want. The standard models remain simple and familiar; the Boa versions allow micro-adjustable instep tuning. The right model is therefore not necessarily the stiffest or the most feature-rich, but the one whose volume, flex and closure system truly match the foot and the skier’s ability.
