HV, MV, LV and LT: how do you read the Alltrack names?

The designations added to the Alltrack name indicate important differences in fit and intended use. Two models with the same flex may therefore not suit the same foot or the same bindings.

Walk mode is not exclusive to touring boots

Walk mode releases the cuff to improve range of motion when moving around, walking in resort or on skin track approaches. This feature does not automatically mean the boot is compatible with a pin touring binding.

In the current Alltrack range, models fitted with Low Tech inserts are named LT. Alltrack HV, MV or BOA versions without this designation remain primarily intended for alpine or all-mountain use. Their walk mode improves mobility, but it does not replace the inserts required to use the toe of a Low Tech binding.

The GripWalk sole must also be considered separately. A boot marked GW must be used with a binding explicitly compatible with GripWalk soles. The presence of a GripWalk sole does not, on its own, prove compatibility with a pin touring binding.

Alltrack HV or Pro MV: choose first according to foot volume

Alltrack HV models favour a roomier fit. Models such as the Alltrack 90 HV, 110 HV and 130 HV BOA are primarily suited to wider feet or skiers who need more space in the shell. Rossignol states a 102 mm fit on the Alltrack 90 HV BOA GW.

Alltrack Pro MV models use an intermediate fit, generally 100 mm. They wrap the foot more closely than the HV versions and aim for a better balance between support and room. This group includes the Alltrack 90 Pro MV BOA, 100 Pro MV and 110 Pro MV.

The stated width is a reference value used by the manufacturer. The actual volume changes according to size and the overall shell shape; a 100 or 102 mm value should therefore not be understood as an identical measurement across all sizes.

From flex 70 to flex 130: a progression in support, not an absolute ranking

Flex indicates the level of forward resistance in the cuff. It helps to place the models in context, but it is not a standardised value across all brands or constructions.

Flex 70 to 80: models geared more towards forgiveness and ease of progression, mainly found in the women’s and junior ranges.
Flex 90: moderate support for progressing skiers or those looking for a less demanding boot.
Flex 100 to 110: more resistance and better energy transmission for intermediate to advanced skiers with more assertive support.
Flex 130: construction intended for advanced to expert skiers who want immediate power transmission.

Flex should be considered alongside build, technique and fit volume. An Alltrack 110 HV and an Alltrack 110 Pro MV may show the same rating while offering very different hold because of their volume and construction. Likewise, a tall, heavy skier will find flex 110 softer than a lighter build would.

BOA or traditional buckles on Rossignol Alltrack boots

Some Alltrack models replace the lower shell buckles with a BOA Fit System. The cable allows progressive adjustment of the wrap around the forefoot. The cuff buckles remain to adjust lower leg support.

BOA does not automatically make the boot stiffer or better suited to every foot. Its main advantage lies in the speed of adjustment and the even distribution of closure across the lower shell. Models with traditional buckles remain relevant for skiers who prefer segmented adjustment or who already find the support appropriate for their build.

LT models for freetouring

Glisshop offers several Alltrack LT models for skiers who want to use pin bindings on approaches or freetouring outings:

Alltrack 90 Pro MV LT GW: moderate flex and intermediate volume to favour approachability and mobility.
Alltrack 110 Pro MV LT GW: a higher level of support for intermediate to advanced skiers.
Alltrack 130 Pro MV LT GW: a stiff model aimed at advanced to expert skiers seeking more downhill power.
Alltrack Pro 100 LT W GW: women’s freetouring version with inserts.
Alltrack Elite 90 LT W GW: women’s version with a closer fit, intended for feet suited to this volume.

Because of their construction and freeride or freetouring positioning, Alltrack LT models generally prioritise support and downhill performance more than a touring boot designed primarily to reduce weight on the ascent. For significant elevation gain and regular touring use, it is still worth comparing them with a lighter freetouring ski boot or touring boot.

The women’s and junior Alltrack models are not simply variations of the men’s versions

The women’s range includes flex ratings from 70 to 100, several constructions and BOA, Pro, Elite or LT versions. An Alltrack 80 W, an Alltrack Pro 80 W and an Alltrack Elite 80 W should therefore not be regarded as the same boot in different colours: their shell, fit, liner or features differ.

The Alltrack Jr 80 belongs to a separate junior construction. Its flex and fit should be assessed according to the build and ability of the young skier, without automatically applying the characteristics of adult models.

Which Rossignol Alltrack should you choose?

Wide foot and comfort first: choose an Alltrack HV.
Medium foot and support in focus: look at the Alltrack Pro MV models.
Slim foot and precision in focus: look specifically for an LV version or a product sheet stating a 98 mm fit.
Need progressive forefoot adjustment: compare the BOA versions.
Use with a pin binding: select only an Alltrack LT.
Mainly resort use: a version without inserts may be sufficient, even if it has a walk mode.

The final choice should always be confirmed by trying them on. Nominal volume, flex and closure type give an initial indication, but they do not on their own predict heel hold, instep pressure or space at the forefoot.
