How to choose your snowboard boots
When choosing snowboard boots, there are three main criteria to compare: fit, flex and the lacing system. If you already own bindings, remember to check that they are compatible with your chosen boots.
Fit: comfort and support come first
A boot should hold your foot securely without creating uncomfortable pressure points. In particular, your heel should remain firmly in place when you flex forwards. Depending on the model, the internal volume and liner construction can also affect the level of support and comfort. Some liners are heat-mouldable, allowing them to conform more closely to the shape of your foot.

Which flex should you choose for your snowboard boots?
Flex refers to how soft or stiff a boot feels. Your choice will depend primarily on your riding style, ability level and the feel you are looking for.
- Soft flex: provides greater forgiveness and freedom of movement. It is particularly suitable for progressing snowboarders and freestyle riding.
- Medium flex: delivers a balance of support and mobility, making it a good choice for versatile, all-mountain riding.

BOA boots, quick lacing or traditional laces: which system should you choose?
The lacing system mainly affects how you put on and adjust your snowboard boots. Several options are available to suit different preferences.
- BOA®: one or more dials allow you to adjust the tension quickly and precisely. View BOA snowboard boots.
- Quick lacing: a pull-cord system allows you to tighten the boot rapidly. View quick-lace boots.
- Traditional laces: these allow you to adjust the tension manually across the different areas of the boot.
- Hybrid systems: some models combine traditional laces with BOA to offer both types of adjustment.
Checking boot and binding compatibility
With conventional strap bindings, your boots and bindings can be from different brands. However, you must select a binding size that is suitable for your boots.
Fast-entry systems such as Burton Step On or K2 Clicker require boots that are compatible with the relevant technology. If you already use this type of binding, make sure your new pair is compatible before making your choice.
