Blizzard Rustler

From the Rustler 9 with 96 mm underfoot to the Rustler 11 reaching 114 mm, the Blizzard Rustler range gradually shifts from all-mountain towards freeride and deep powder. The three adult models combine a Trueblend Freeride Woodcore with FluxForm construction, while the Rustler Team brings the spirit of the series into a 90 mm junior ski. Trueblend and FluxForm: the technical foundation of the Rustler

The Rustler 9, 10 and 11 use a Trueblend Freeride Woodcore combining beech, poplar and paulownia. Blizzard distributes different wood densities within the core to vary the flex along the ski: softer at the tips, medium in front of and behind the binding, then stiffer underfoot.

The FluxForm construction complements this core with titanal inserts whose dimensions are tailored to each Rustler. This means the three skis clearly belong to the same family, while not simply being the same ski offered in three different waist widths. Their shape and construction also alter the way they ski.

Rustler 9: the most versatile for piste and off-piste

At 96 mm underfoot, the Rustler 9 is the narrowest of the three adult models. It is an all-mountain ski with a good ability to handle snow that has been transformed, chopped up or is firm. Its profile combines a tip rocker, camber underfoot and a tail rocker.

This width remains sufficiently restrained to retain more agility on groomed snow than the Rustler 10 and 11. The Rustler 9 is therefore the most sensible choice for the skier who wants to alternate regularly between piste and off-piste without making deep powder their main priority.

Rustler 10: 102 mm to take a step further toward freeride skiing

The Rustler 10 moves up to 102 mm underfoot. This extra width increases the surface area available in fresh snow compared with the Rustler 9, while its double rocker makes pivoting easier and helps the ski lift in deeper snow.

The camber underfoot and the FluxForm construction with Trueblend nevertheless provide a solid platform on hard snow. The Rustler 10 therefore occupies the middle ground in the adult range: more off-piste focused than the 9, but noticeably narrower than the 11.

Rustler 11: the widest for deep-snow days

The Rustler 11 represents the freeride end of the series. Its tip and tail rocker, combined with this much wider platform, increases its appeal when the snow gets deep.

The trade-off for its 114 mm waist is obvious: the Rustler 11 takes more effort to move from edge to edge than the Rustler 9. It still features camber underfoot and the same Trueblend/FluxForm principle as its smaller siblings, but its appeal really comes into its own when off-piste and powder make up a significant part of your skiing.

Rustler Team: a construction designed for young freeriders

The Blizzard Rustler Team is a junior model with a 90 mm waist. Blizzard specifically targets young freeskiers with it and offers it in lengths from 132 to 164 cm. Its profile also combines a tip rocker, camber underfoot and a tail rocker.

Its construction, however, differs from that of the adult Rustlers. The Team uses a Full Woodcore and a FluxForm Freeride Fibreglass Sandwich construction, without the partial titanal FluxForm construction found on the 9, 10 and 11. It should therefore be regarded as a genuine junior ski developed for this discipline, rather than simply a shortened adult Rustler.

Which Blizzard Rustler should you choose?

The choice mainly depends on how much importance you place on off-piste skiing. The Rustler 9 makes the most sense when piste and variable snow remain important. The Rustler 10 shifts things further towards freeride with its 102 mm underfoot. The Rustler 11 gives even greater priority to float in the backcountry thanks to its extra width.
