Dynastar M-Cross

The M-Cross are all-mountain skis from Dynastar designed to switch between carved turns on piste and forays onto the piste edges in softer snow. The range brings together several waist widths and construction levels to suit both piste-focused skiing and more frequent outings away from groomed trails. Available on their own or as Dynastar ski packages with bindings, the different M-Cross models are mainly distinguished by their waist width, level of support and ease of use.

M-Cross W 78 and M-Cross 80: prioritising approachability on groomed snow

The two narrowest models in the selection remain piste-oriented. Their limited width makes edge changes easier, while their directional rocker helps initiate turns and adds a little pivot when the snow becomes less consistent. However, they are not aimed at the same ability level.

Dynastar M-Cross W 78 Xpress

With a 78 mm waist, the Dynastar M-Cross W 78 Xpress retains handling close to that of a piste ski. Its Hybrid Core construction combines poplar wood and polyurethane.

The directional rocker makes turn initiation easier and provides slightly more forgiveness in uneven snow. The camber underfoot maintains grip when conditions are firm. The M-Cross W 78 is not designed to replace a wider ski: above all, it allows a progressing skier to discover the sides of the slopes without making skiing on groomed runs unnecessarily sluggish.

Dynastar M-Cross 80 Xpress

The Dynastar M-Cross 80 Xpress is aimed at more experienced skiers. Its 80 mm waist remains compatible with responsive piste performance, while providing a slightly broader platform when the snow becomes soft, chopped-up or heavy as the day goes on.

Its Adaptativ Sidecut smooths the transition between the geometry of the tip, waist and tail. This sidecut is less about imposing a single turn radius than making it easier to move between different turn shapes. The M-Cross 80 therefore sits midway between the ease of use of the W 78 and the more demanding construction of the 82 models.

The M-Cross 82 models sit at the heart of the range

The M-Cross 82 skis moderately increase the width while adding a more structured construction. Their Hybrid Core 2.0 combines poplar wood laid in three directions with polyurethane. A central titanal layer helps filter vibrations and transmit pressure, while the Sandwich Full Sidewall construction maintains edge hold on firm snow.

Dynastar M-Cross 82

The Dynastar M-Cross 82 is designed for skiers who do not want to choose between carved turns on piste and sections through natural snow. Its 82 mm waist remains slim enough to get the ski up on edge on the groomers but offers more support than the 78 and 80 models when the snow becomes deeper or more uneven.

The directional rocker shortens the edge length immediately in contact during pivoting phases. Underfoot, the camber and sandwich construction preserve a more directional feel when the edge is engaged.

Compared with the M-Cross W 78, the W 82 requires more control, but also provides greater support when the snow gets heavier. The camber and sandwich construction favour edge-driven skiing, while the directional rocker makes direction changes easier in less uniform snow.

With a waist reaching 88 mm, the two widest models offer a larger platform in soft snow. They nevertheless remain directional all-mountain skis, with traditional camber and straight sidewalls designed to maintain precise handling on piste. They do not replace wider freeride skis in deep snow.

Dynastar M-Cross 88

The Dynastar M-Cross 88 is aimed at skiers who head off the groomed runs more regularly without giving up carving. Its width provides more support in chopped-up or spring snow than the M-Cross 80 and 82. In return, it naturally makes edge changes a little less immediate than on the narrower models.

The Hybrid Core 2.0 core, sandwich construction and central reinforcement form a build designed to retain composure when the pace increases. The Adaptativ Sidecut assists transitions between tip and tail to avoid an overly locked-in feel despite the extra width.

The women’s version has specific lengths and radii. Its waist varies from 86 to 88 mm depending on the length, compared with 87 to 88 mm for the unisex M-Cross 88. The Hybrid Core 2.0 construction contributes to stability and vibration damping, while the sandwich construction enhances precision and edge hold on firm snow. The rocker adds pivot when the snow becomes less compact.

The M-Cross 80 is the most logical choice for a skier who spends most of the day on groomers and only heads out of bounds occasionally. Its limited width encourages edge changes and its level of support remains approachable.

The M-Cross 82 is better suited to someone who genuinely splits their day between piste and transformed snow. Its reinforced construction provides more hold than the M-Cross 80, without reaching the width of the 88.

The M-Cross 88 gives more room to side-country terrain and uneven snow. It remains capable of carving turns on firm snow but requires more commitment to move quickly from one edge to the other.

M-Cross W 78, W 82 or W 88: three levels of progression

The M-Cross W 78 Xpress focuses on progression and easy turn initiation. It suits a skier who first wants to feel confident on piste while still having a ski that behaves well in soft snow.

The M-Cross W 82 requires greater independence. It broadens the accessible terrain and provides more support in transformed snow, while keeping a waist that remains moderate enough for piste skiing.

The M-Cross W 88 is aimed at an advanced or expert skier who frequently ventures away from groomed runs. Its width and construction make it better suited to uneven snow, but also more demanding than the W 78 and W 82.
