The ATC Pilot, on the other hand, is an assisted-braking belay device for single ropes. It makes it much easier to lock the rope almost automatically in the event of a leader fall. Of course, it is essential to always keep your hand on the brake side of the rope below the device, just as you would with a standard manual belay device.
