The MQM 3 GTX hiking shoe from Merrell stands out from all other models of the brand with its climbing zone, a small area at the front of the sole that is completely smooth. Reinforced and stiffened, this climbing zone is a real asset when it comes to crossing scree and tackling scrambling sections. This means it can be used as an approach shoe.
However, this smooth zone is counterproductive on wet, muddy, or very sandy slopes because the traction at the front of the shoe is almost non-existent.
