Millet: over a century of mountain heritage

From a small Lyon workshop to Himalayan summits, here’s how Millet shaped mountain history:

  • 1921: founded by Marc and Hermance Millet, producing shopping bags and the first framed backpacks near Lyon, later moving to Annecy.
  • 1950: collaboration between René and Raymond Millet with Louis Lachenal and Maurice Herzog for the Annapurna expedition. Millet gear used in Himalayan expeditions.
  • 1959–1963: Italian guide Walter Bonatti becomes technical advisor and conquers the north faces of the Grandes Jorasses.
