Description

Designed for long ascents where every gram matters, the K2 Wayback 89 is a lightweight touring ski built for uphill efficiency while still capable of handling a variety of snow conditions on the descent.

What is the intended use of the K2 Wayback 89 ski?

With an 89 mm waist, it remains narrow and responsive, ideal for ski touring missions where low weight is key. The tip rocker makes turn initiation easier and improves manoeuvrability in variable or spring snow, while the traditional camber underfoot ensures consistent edge grip on hardpack. Its long turning radius enhances stability in wide, sweeping turns. On firm or spring snow, it delivers precise, confident handling.

Who is the K2 Wayback 89 ski for?

This ski is aimed at intermediate to advanced skiers who are already technically proficient and looking for an ultra-light touring ski to tackle big ascents without sacrificing downhill control.

What are the strengths of the K2 Wayback 89 ski?

Lightweight

Precise

Durable

Does the Wayback 89 hold well on hard snow?

Yes. The traditional camber underfoot maintains continuous edge contact from tip to tail, providing solid edge grip on firm and groomed snow.

Is the Wayback 89 lightweight on the climb?

Yes. Its Paulownia wood core and SnoPhobic topsheet, which prevents snow build-up on the ski, reduce overall weight and minimise drag during long ascents.

Does the Wayback 89 perform well on the descent despite its featherweight build?

Yes. The Titanal inserts integrated into the Titanal Touring Tech construction add damping and stability, making the descent smoother and more controlled than with a typical ultra-light touring ski.

What is the difference between the Wayback 89 and the Wayback 98?

The Wayback 89 is narrower and more agile, designed for firm snow, spring conditions, and long climbs. The Wayback 98, being wider, offers better float and control in variable snow and light powder.

Tips and advice

After using our calculator, you can explore further with our guides (depending on your skiing style):

And to see the method in action, here’s our video tutorial (example focused on piste / all-mountain skiing, with useful benchmarks whatever your style).

At glisshop.co.uk, you’ll find one of the most comprehensive ski selections available online. To choose the right pair, start with three simple criteria: your ability level, your preferred terrain (piste, all-mountain, freeride, freestyle, touring), and your budget.

To refine your selection, several options are available:

  1. The advanced search tool: located at the top of each category page, it allows you to filter by brand, skill level, discipline, and more. By combining these filters, you can quickly narrow down the range and easily find the models best suited to your skiing style.

  2. Contact us on 020 3129 3301: a pair of skis is a technical piece of equipment. Before placing your order, it’s best to make sure the model truly meets your expectations. Our team is here to advise you.

To go further and understand the differences between ski types, take a look at our comprehensive guide 'Which skis to choose?'.

During the process or your order, we'll ask you to complete a form about the mounting of your bindings. With these details, we will be able to mount the bindings with the correct settings. The release value of the bindings is set by a professional skiman, and according to the norm AFNOR FD S 52-748.

If you don't have your own ski boots when you order, the bindings will be pre-mounted. The final settings can be done :

- by a shop if you are renting your ski boots

- by our skiman : you can call us for any technical questions. Our skiman will do the final settings for you. Telephone : 020 3129 3301

All skis you purchase on our website are factory-waxed and tuned. This means they are ready to hit the slopes. However, gear tends to wear and in order to keep it in its best shape, you need to maintain base and edges on a regular basis.

Maintaining your skis is essential for a smooth glide and a solit grip. Frequency of maintenance may vary depending on how often you use your skis, or on how damaged they are. We recommend you to wax them every 10 riding days and at the end of the season. Edges need to be tuned up to 2 times per season if you want to keep a good edge control. However, don't overdo it. Tuning is basically scraping off material. If you do it too often, the edges will vanish after some time.

When your base is damaged and shows shallow scratches or rock gouge, it is possible to repair it.

You can get these repairs done by professional ski shop, or if the gouge is only superficial you may repair it yourself. To do so, you will need special tools and materials such as wax, Ptex for repairing bases, edge sharpeners, etc. You can find them on our website.

All products benefit from a manufacturer guarantee, as long as the damage is caused by a manufacturing defect (may it be hidden or obvious).

Usually, the manufacturer guarantee lasts two years.

Only the manufacturer is able to decide if there has been a 'manufacturing defect' or a 'misuse'. Glisshop is only an intermediary between you and the manufacturer.

The manufacturer's guarantee will not apply if the problem comes from a misuse.
