Description

Designed for ski touring when snow conditions evolve throughout the day, the K2 Wayback 98 is a lightweight touring ski that blends uphill efficiency with confident downhill performance across all types of snow.

What is the intended use of the K2 Wayback 98 ski?

With a 98 mm waist, it provides enough float to glide through soft powder while remaining agile in variable snow. The tip rocker enhances lift and makes turn initiation easier, while the traditional camber underfoot ensures solid edge grip when the snow firms up. A subtle tail rocker adds control in transformed or mixed snow. Its long turning radius delivers stability in wide, sweeping turns.

Who is the K2 Wayback 98 ski for?

This ski is designed for intermediate to advanced ski tourers who are already technically proficient and looking for a lightweight, versatile touring ski capable of handling changing snow conditions during the same outing.

What are the strengths of the K2 Wayback 98 ski?

Versatile

Lightweight

Stable

Does the Wayback 98 float in powder?

Yes. Its width combined with the tip rocker helps it stay on top of the snow, even though it’s primarily a touring ski built for versatility rather than deep powder performance.

How does the Wayback 98 perform in variable snow?

Very well. The progressive tip rocker and slight tail rocker provide control and confidence when the snow is crusty or uneven.

Is the Wayback 98 light on the ascent?

Yes. The Paulownia wood core keeps the construction lightweight, and the SnoPhobic topsheet prevents snow build-up on the ski, reducing unnecessary weight during long climbs.

Is the Wayback 98 stable on the descent?

Yes. The Titanal inserts used in the Titanal Touring Tech construction add damping and edge hold, inspiring confidence on the descent for a ski of this weight class.

What is the difference between the Wayback 98 and the Wayback 89?

The Wayback 98 is wider and more versatile, performing better in variable and soft snow. The Wayback 89, being narrower and more responsive, is geared towards firm snow and fast spring tours.

Tips and advice

After using our calculator, you can explore further with our guides (depending on your skiing style):

And to see the method in action, here’s our video tutorial (example focused on piste / all-mountain skiing, with useful benchmarks whatever your style).

At glisshop.co.uk, you’ll find one of the most comprehensive ski selections available online. To choose the right pair, start with three simple criteria: your ability level, your preferred terrain (piste, all-mountain, freeride, freestyle, touring), and your budget.

To refine your selection, several options are available:

  1. The advanced search tool: located at the top of each category page, it allows you to filter by brand, skill level, discipline, and more. By combining these filters, you can quickly narrow down the range and easily find the models best suited to your skiing style.

  2. Contact us on 020 3129 3301: a pair of skis is a technical piece of equipment. Before placing your order, it’s best to make sure the model truly meets your expectations. Our team is here to advise you.

To go further and understand the differences between ski types, take a look at our comprehensive guide 'Which skis to choose?'.

During the process or your order, we'll ask you to complete a form about the mounting of your bindings. With these details, we will be able to mount the bindings with the correct settings. The release value of the bindings is set by a professional skiman, and according to the norm AFNOR FD S 52-748.

If you don't have your own ski boots when you order, the bindings will be pre-mounted. The final settings can be done :

- by a shop if you are renting your ski boots

- by our skiman : you can call us for any technical questions. Our skiman will do the final settings for you. Telephone : 020 3129 3301

All skis you purchase on our website are factory-waxed and tuned. This means they are ready to hit the slopes. However, gear tends to wear and in order to keep it in its best shape, you need to maintain base and edges on a regular basis.

Maintaining your skis is essential for a smooth glide and a solit grip. Frequency of maintenance may vary depending on how often you use your skis, or on how damaged they are. We recommend you to wax them every 10 riding days and at the end of the season. Edges need to be tuned up to 2 times per season if you want to keep a good edge control. However, don't overdo it. Tuning is basically scraping off material. If you do it too often, the edges will vanish after some time.

When your base is damaged and shows shallow scratches or rock gouge, it is possible to repair it.

You can get these repairs done by professional ski shop, or if the gouge is only superficial you may repair it yourself. To do so, you will need special tools and materials such as wax, Ptex for repairing bases, edge sharpeners, etc. You can find them on our website.

All products benefit from a manufacturer guarantee, as long as the damage is caused by a manufacturing defect (may it be hidden or obvious).

Usually, the manufacturer guarantee lasts two years.

Only the manufacturer is able to decide if there has been a 'manufacturing defect' or a 'misuse'. Glisshop is only an intermediary between you and the manufacturer.

The manufacturer's guarantee will not apply if the problem comes from a misuse.
