Adret

What’s the story behind the Zag brand?

Since its creation in the heart of the Mont-Blanc massif, Zag Skis has established itself as a benchmark in freeride and all-mountain skiing. Driven by a desire to push the limits on snow, the Chamonix-based brand blends technological innovation, artisanal expertise and environmental commitment. Over the years, Zag has made its mark on modern skiing with its iconic models and technical breakthroughs. Here are the key milestones that have shaped the brand’s identity.

2002 – Bourg-Saint-Maurice: the birth of a legend

This is where it all began, when the visionary shaper behind ZAG launched the Big 84, a revolutionary ski with a rocker, designed to float through powder like a water ski. The success was immediate, and the following year the brand won an ISPO Award. Always at the forefront of innovation, ZAG continued its momentum and in 2008 unveiled its first freeride double rocker technology, the Rocker RX.

2010 – Chamonix: the freeride shift

Eight years later, ZAG moved to the Chamonix valley, a mecca for freeride skiing. This relocation marked a strategic turning point: the brand drew closer to the freeride community and opened its Pro Shop at the foot of Mont-Blanc, which quickly became a must-visit spot for snow sports enthusiasts.

2012 – The Ubac 95: the benchmark for touring skis

The year 2012 marked another success with the creation of the ZAG Ubac 95, a mid-fat, ultra-light and exceptionally manoeuvrable freetouring ski for powder. This iconic model cemented ZAG’s reputation in the world of ski touring.

2015 – Birth of the ZAGLAB: innovation made in Chamonix

With the creation of the ZAGLAB, its research and development centre, the brand reached a new milestone. It’s in this laboratory, based in Chamonix, that all skis are now conceived, tested and refined before being manufactured in Europe and Tunisia. ZAG now fully controls its entire design process and stays one step ahead of market trends.

Eco-design, performance and innovation

Now firmly established among the elite of high-end freeride skis, ZAG’s R&D and Marketing departments work hand in hand with the Be Pôles studio in Paris, which creates modern, vibrant designs for the brand. The recognition was immediate. The colour palette is lively and full of energy, and the ski graphics are now designed as matching pairs.

The well-kept secret behind these fun, modern skis?
