Description
Black Crows’ engineers hit hard again this year in the ski touring world with the Vastus Freebird, an ultra light mountaineering ski. For the first time Black Crows came out under 1000g on the scale for a 171cm ski. The secret is the new balsa and flax core stiffened by a layer of carbon. Endowed with a single beak shape, a tip rocker simple but powerful to float in powder effortlessly.
What can the Black Crows Vastus Freebird ski do?
With a waist of only 76mm, the Vastus Freebird is a true rocket uphill. You don’t even feel it underfoot and you hike super fast. You will attack the steep straight up and avoid as many conversions as possible. Once on the edge, this touring ski gives confidence and provides a good grip even on hard and icy snow. Going downhill, it won’t be an epic freeride ski but you will enjoy the Black Crows signature and a super easy pivot. We can’t say that it delivers stunning sensations in freeride but it does the job.
Who is the Black Crows Vastus Freebird ski designed for?
We advise this light touring ski to expert riders who favour the ascent to the maximum to spend long days on the mountain. The Vastus Freebird will be the perfect ski to do Chamonix-Zermatt and go from refuge to refuge.
