What is the ideal weight for a 30-litre hiking backpack?
30L backpacks typically weigh between 650 g and 1.5 kg. Their design is what determines the weight, so it’s rare for two backpacks with the same capacity to weigh exactly the same. They all take great care in designing their packs to achieve the best balance between weight, durability and functionality, with the aim of making them as practical and ergonomic as possible while keeping the weight to a minimum.
What backpack capacity for a week-long trip? Is 30 litres big enough?
If you’re looking for a backpack for a week of hiking or backpacking, we recommend choosing one with a capacity of 50 to 70 litres. It will allow you to carry all your gear: tent, sleeping bag, liner, trekking mat, clothing, camping stove, cooking pot, water, food, and more. However, a 30-litre backpack can be enough for a week if you’re hiking light, have regular access to supplies, and plan to stay in hostels or mountain refuges.
What size backpack is allowed as carry-on luggage on a plane?
If you're flying and want to use a backpack as your carry-on bag, a 30-litre pack is a very sensible choice.
