Dynafit, from alpine skiing to ski touring and trail running

Who hasn’t heard of Dynafit? The brand specialises in ski mountaineering, ski touring, trail running and hiking through its performance-driven products. The story starts in 1950, with the production of ski boots under the name Humanic. 15 years later, the first boots with buckles arrive on the market. Already Dynafit innovates for skiing, first with alpine skiing gear, then ski mountaineering and touring. In 1973, Franz Klammer wins the Planai downhill race in Schladming, Austria, using Dynafit equipment. From then on, the brand’s success continues with eight downhill world cup titles won by Dynafit athletes. In 1980, Leonhard Stock is Olympic champion. There must a reason the brand’s athletes spend so much time on the podiums… It's only the beginning of a story punctuated by many race victories and iconic models associated, such as the World Cup Competition, launched in 1980, the Tourlite ski mountaineering boot in 1983, a revolution for its light weight at the time, and in 1985, the first alpine ski boot with Gore-Tex Thermo Dry membrane. Today, Dynafit is a leading brand in backcountry skiing and ski mountaineering, as well as trail running. A benchmark for anyone eager to enjoy the mountains and high-altitude terrain.

Dynafit, a benchmark for winter and summer alike

Dynafit TLT, Seven Summit, Radical, Radical Pro: ski touring boots for all types of skiers

Today, the brand is a true benchmark in the world of ski touring and ski mountaineering. All athletes who like fast ascents appreciate TLT ski touring boots, Dynafit touring skis and the brand’s Low Tech bindings. The TLT range is an iconic one for those seeking a lightweight boot that performs in the climbs. For skiers who prefer a more balanced experience between climbing and descending, models such as the Seven Summit Radical and Radical Pro are better options, providing the support needed to ski aggressively.

Dynafit ski touring bindings

In the early 1990s, Dynafit hits heavy with its new Tourlite Tech ski touring binding. with its feather weight, it was well ahead of its time and took the touring world by storm. The brand then partners with the best ski mountaineering athletes to develops new skis: the D612 and D914, as well as a climbing skin attachment system: the Speedskin-Fix. Of course, the brand also offers crampons compatible with its bindings for when climbing skins don’t offer enough traction.

As with the boots, Dynafit offers multiple ski touring bindings for different needs. Dynafit ski touring bindings can be arranged in three families: Race, Speed, and Tour.

The Race range is rather exclusive, aimed at ski mountaineering racers, seeking the lightest and fastest equipment to save precious seconds. It includes models such as the Race 115+ Low Tech binding or the ultra-minimalist Dynafit P49.

The Speed range also aims at offering maximum efficiency and lightness for the climbs but provides better safety and power transfer in the descents. Models such as the Dynafit Blacklight.

Finally, the Tour range is meant to provide a good balance between climbing performance and skiability/ safety in the descents. It’s Dynafit’s most versatile range. You’ll find models such as the Dynafit St Rotation Lite 10 or Dynafit ST Rotation Lite7, a version for kids or lighter skiers.

Dynafit athletes: men and women setting records

Dynafit athletes have set the ascending/descending record of the famous 7,545 m high Mustagh Ata summit, in just 10 hours 41 minutes. In 2006, the Dynafit team successfully tackles the Gasherbrum II and its 8,035 but fails at the 8,163 m high Manasly due to weather conditions. The women Dynafit team is going strong as well, finishing the Chamonix-Zermatt-Alagna route in only 3 days! Not bad for 140 km and 10,000 metres of elevation gain! In 2012, Dynafit athletes get their revenge on the Manaslu and successfully finish the ascension and descent of the peak in under a day!

Dynafit jackets and downs made of high-end materials

To offer a complete equipment for ski touring and ski mountaineering enthusiasts, Dynafit also develops its know-how in terms of technical apparel manufacturing. The brand designs ski trousers and ski jackets that perfectly meet the need for thermal comfort and waterproof/breathable protection.

Technologies found on Dynafit apparel:

  • Gore-Tex membrane: the iconic membrane, offering great waterproofness and breathability.
  • Primaloft insulation: lightweight thermal insulation made of recycled synthetic fibres or bio-sourced fibres among others.
  • Gore Windstopper: a membrane specifically developed to offer the best wind protection while being highly breathable.
  • Downtek: down insulation with PFC-free water-repellent finish.
  • Polartec: light, soft, warm, and breathable fleece material for exceptional thermal control and comfort.
  • DriRelease: technology combining synthetic and natural fibres, offering great breathability and quick drying.
  • Dryarn: high-performance synthetic fibre, light weight, warm and breathable.
  • Dyna-shell 3 layer: three-layer membrane for excellent weather protection and ultra-fast moisture wicking.
