Should you choose your Antora 3 trail shoe with or without the GTX (Gore Tex) membrane?

This model is offered by Merrell either with a waterproof Gore Tex membrane or with only a breathable mesh for quicker sweat evaporation. You will need to choose between the Antora GTX and the standard Antora.

Advantage of the Antora Gore Tex:

With a waterproof and breathable membrane you can be sure to run in all weather conditions whether it's windy, rainy, or snowy. However, the evacuation of heat and sweat is slower because the water vapor must migrate through the membrane before being expelled outside.

Advantage of the standard Antora (without membrane):

Without a membrane, the shoe is hyper breathable. Exchanges between the inside of the shoe and the outside occur very easily and the act of running ventilates the foot. The breathable Merrell mesh lining takes good care of the internal moisture and lets it filter outwards without any constraint. Of course, the downside is that even the slightest dew or light rain will get your feet wet.

The ideal would be to own two distinct pairs, one with a membrane and another without. This way, you can always run in the same shoe model but with waterproofness and breathability adapted to the conditions of the day.

What is the drop of the Merrell Antora?

The Merrell Antora 3 has a drop of 8 mm. This is a generous drop that provides nice heel cushioning at the back of the shoe. It will be perfect for discovering fast hiking and trail running gently without hurting your joints and starting to accumulate miles on trails and sinuous or even technical paths.
