Cross-country ski boots are manufactured based on studying different morphologies.
The days are gone when women didn't have boots available to fit their shape. Following more and more demand, ski brands such as Fischer and Rossignol decided to produce cross-country ski boots specifically for women's feet. They are warmer than normal and the liner is designed for a slimmer foot. However, they are an equally good range and the performance level is the same as men's boots. Ladies, with ski boots like these, you're now just as well equipped as your male counterparts.
Choose a ski boot suited to your skiing ability.
The choice of cross-country ski boots is vast. Each represents a different level of ability. To help you make your choice, we've classified the boots into 3 categories of ability. All you have to do is determine which category you fall into to make the right choice.
The "Leisure" category is aimed at skiers looking for a comfortable cross-country ski boot who want to go out on gentle excursions. If you're not at all interested in performance, these ski boots are made for you.
Regular skiers, without doubt fall into the "Sports" category. These boots offer a good technical ability without compromising the comfort of your feet. Regular skiers will be thrilled to be able to ski for miles without the problem of aching feet.
The Race/Expert category has the current best performing ski boots of the moment. Coming from the biggest competing brands they provide excellent control on skis with a sleek support. These boots are aimed at more demanding skiers who want to run a technical or competition course.
Should the standard of the cross-country ski boot be compatible with that of the binding?
The boots attach to the bindings with clips located on the sole. The standard for cross-country ski boots is therefore determined by whether there are one or two clip attachments.
- Boots that have only one clip are NNN or Prolink standard. They are both compatible. You can therefore have an NNN boot with a Prolink binding without any problem.
However, the SNS Pilot Standard is not compatible with the other two standards. This is the case if you have two clips on the sole of your boot. So you can only use SNS Pilot boots on a binding with the same standard.
