Product description — Oblivion 116

Designed for days of deep powder without sacrificing freestyle style, the Head Oblivion 116 is the backcountry freestyle ski with the widest waist in Head’s Oblivion line. With its twin-tip design and playful feel, it’s ideal for riders who want to maintain that park-style feel even when the mountain is buried under fresh snow.

What’s the Head Oblivion 116 all about?

This ski sits at the top of the backcountry freestyle spectrum, designed for big mountain and deep powder. With a 117 mm waist, it offers maximum float that keeps it afloat in the freshest snow. Its twin-tip profile allows for switch landings and takeoffs on natural jumps. It’s a ski for committed big-line runs, designed to be ridden fast and high.

Who is the Head Oblivion 116 designed for?

The Oblivion 116 is designed for advanced to expert skiers—committed and physically fit—who are capable of handling a wide, technical ski in natural terrain. It’s a ski for riders seeking uncompromising freestyle and big-mountain performance, who know how to handle a ski of this width in demanding conditions.

How does the Oblivion 116 perform in deep powder?

That’s its natural habitat. Its width and TNT rocker at the tip give it excellent float that keeps the ski on the surface, while the camber under the waist maintains control when the snow changes. It floats without losing the pop needed for tricks.

Does the Oblivion 116 remain maneuverable despite its width?

Its Carbon Sandwich construction, featuring a recycled poplar-PET core, keeps it light for its size, which reduces the effort required to control it. It still requires active, physical control, though: it’s a wide ski, designed for skiers who have the strength to handle it.

What is the purpose of the ISS system on the Oblivion 116?

The Independent Suspension System features elastomers along the edges, in the tip, tail, and under the waist. It absorbs vibrations generated by the wide rocker zones and provides cushioning that makes the ride smoother at high speeds and on big landings.

What’s the difference between the Oblivion 116 and the Oblivion 102?

Both skis share the freestyle backcountry profile, the Carbon Sandwich construction, and the recycled poplar-PET core. The Oblivion 116 is the widest model in the line: it’s designed for deep powder and big mountain skiing for expert skiers. The narrower Oblivion 102 is more versatile and easier to handle when the snow isn’t deep, while still retaining a true freestyle character.

Tips and advice

How to choose the length of your skis?

After using our calculator, you can explore further with our guides (depending on your skiing style):

And to see the method in action, here’s our video tutorial (example focused on piste / all-mountain skiing, with useful benchmarks whatever your style).

How to choose the size of your piste and all-mountain skis?

At glisshop.co.uk, you’ll find one of the most comprehensive ski selections available online. To choose the right pair, start with three simple criteria: your ability level, your preferred terrain (piste, all-mountain, freeride, freestyle, touring), and your budget.

To refine your selection, several options are available:

  1. The advanced search tool: located at the top of each category page, it allows you to filter by brand, skill level, discipline, and more. By combining these filters, you can quickly narrow down the range and easily find the models best suited to your skiing style.

  2. Contact us on 020 3129 3301: a pair of skis is a technical piece of equipment. Before placing your order, it’s best to make sure the model truly meets your expectations. Our team is here to advise you.

To go further and understand the differences between ski types, take a look at our comprehensive guide 'Which skis to choose?'.

During the process or your order, we'll ask you to complete a form about the mounting of your bindings. With these details, we will be able to mount the bindings with the correct settings. The release value of the bindings is set by a professional skiman, and according to the norm AFNOR FD S 52-748.

If you don't have your own ski boots when you order, the bindings will be pre-mounted. The final settings can be done :

- by a shop if you are renting your ski boots

- by our skiman : you can call us for any technical questions. Our skiman will do the final settings for you. Telephone : 020 3129 3301

All skis you purchase on our website are factory-waxed and tuned. This means they are ready to hit the slopes. However, gear tends to wear and in order to keep it in its best shape, you need to maintain base and edges on a regular basis.

Maintaining your skis is essential for a smooth glide and a solit grip. Frequency of maintenance may vary depending on how often you use your skis, or on how damaged they are. We recommend you to wax them every 10 riding days and at the end of the season. Edges need to be tuned up to 2 times per season if you want to keep a good edge control. However, don't overdo it. Tuning is basically scraping off material. If you do it too often, the edges will vanish after some time.

When your base is damaged and shows shallow scratches or rock gouge, it is possible to repair it.

You can get these repairs done by professional ski shop, or if the gouge is only superficial you may repair it yourself. To do so, you will need special tools and materials such as wax, Ptex for repairing bases, edge sharpeners, etc. You can find them on our website.

All products benefit from a manufacturer guarantee, as long as the damage is caused by a manufacturing defect (may it be hidden or obvious).

Usually, the manufacturer guarantee lasts two years.

Only the manufacturer is able to decide if there has been a 'manufacturing defect' or a 'misuse'. Glisshop is only an intermediary between you and the manufacturer.

The manufacturer's guarantee will not apply if the problem comes from a misuse.

Setting the release value of your bindings is a major safety issue.

In order to fully function and ensure safety, your bindings need to be set according to the Afnor FD S 52-748 standard. We wrote down a guide to help you find out the release value matching your needs.
