Product description — Oblivion 79

Designed for those who want to turn every run into a playground, the Head Oblivion 79 is a versatile freestyle ski that transitions seamlessly from the snowpark to groomed runs without changing your mindset. Its twin-tip shape and playful character make it the perfect mountain companion for riding regular or switch, stringing together butters, and landing grabs all over the resort.

What’s the Head Oblivion 79 all about?

This ski falls into the all-mountain freestyle category, designed to ride the entire mountain as if it were a snowpark. With a 79 mm waist, it remains responsive and easy to edge on groomed snow, where the fundamentals of freestyle skiing are honed. Its twin-tip profile allows for switch landings and takeoffs, both on features and throughout the rest of the mountain. It’s a ski built for pop: jumps, presses, rails, and small spins.

Who is the Head Oblivion 79 ski designed for?

Accessible and forgiving, the Oblivion 79 is designed for intermediate to advanced skiers who want to discover freestyle and express themselves without being held back by their gear. Its moderate width and wood core make it a great entry point for progressing on features, learning to ride switch, and gaining confidence anywhere on the slope.

What are the main qualities of the Head Oblivion 79 ski?

Playful

Forgiving

Versatile

Is the Head Oblivion 79 ski suitable for the snowpark?

Yes. Its symmetrical twin-tip shape and PNP rocker at the tip and tail make switch takeoffs and landings easier, and the wood core construction provides the necessary rebound for pop on jumps and rails.

How does the Oblivion 79 perform on hard snow?

Its narrower width makes it responsive from edge to edge on groomed snow, and the camber under the waist maintains contact with the snow underfoot for good grip. The double rocker is subtle on this model, keeping it maneuverable on the piste.

Can you ride switch on the Head Oblivion 79?

Yes. Its twin-tip construction with a raised tail is designed for riding switch, making it just as comfortable riding regular as it is riding backward, on features as well as the rest of the mountain.

What’s the difference between the Oblivion 79 and the Oblivion 84?

Both share the same all-mountain freestyle profile and the same wood core. The Oblivion 84 is wider at the waist and features the ISS damping system as well as reinforced Tuff-Wall sidewalls, making it more stable in light off-piste conditions. The Oblivion 79, which is narrower and simpler in construction, remains the liveliest option on the piste and the most accessible choice for beginners to freestyle.

Tips and advice

How to choose the length of your skis?

After using our calculator, you can explore further with our guides (depending on your skiing style):

And to see the method in action, here’s our video tutorial (example focused on piste / all-mountain skiing, with useful benchmarks whatever your style).

How to choose the size of your piste and all-mountain skis?

At glisshop.co.uk, you’ll find one of the most comprehensive ski selections available online. To choose the right pair, start with three simple criteria: your ability level, your preferred terrain (piste, all-mountain, freeride, freestyle, touring), and your budget.

To refine your selection, several options are available:

  1. The advanced search tool: located at the top of each category page, it allows you to filter by brand, skill level, discipline, and more. By combining these filters, you can quickly narrow down the range and easily find the models best suited to your skiing style.

  2. Contact us on 020 3129 3301: a pair of skis is a technical piece of equipment. Before placing your order, it’s best to make sure the model truly meets your expectations. Our team is here to advise you.

To go further and understand the differences between ski types, take a look at our comprehensive guide 'Which skis to choose?'.

During the process or your order, we'll ask you to complete a form about the mounting of your bindings. With these details, we will be able to mount the bindings with the correct settings. The release value of the bindings is set by a professional skiman, and according to the norm AFNOR FD S 52-748.

If you don't have your own ski boots when you order, the bindings will be pre-mounted. The final settings can be done :

- by a shop if you are renting your ski boots

- by our skiman : you can call us for any technical questions. Our skiman will do the final settings for you. Telephone : 020 3129 3301

All skis you purchase on our website are factory-waxed and tuned. This means they are ready to hit the slopes. However, gear tends to wear and in order to keep it in its best shape, you need to maintain base and edges on a regular basis.

Maintaining your skis is essential for a smooth glide and a solit grip. Frequency of maintenance may vary depending on how often you use your skis, or on how damaged they are. We recommend you to wax them every 10 riding days and at the end of the season. Edges need to be tuned up to 2 times per season if you want to keep a good edge control. However, don't overdo it. Tuning is basically scraping off material. If you do it too often, the edges will vanish after some time.

When your base is damaged and shows shallow scratches or rock gouge, it is possible to repair it.

You can get these repairs done by professional ski shop, or if the gouge is only superficial you may repair it yourself. To do so, you will need special tools and materials such as wax, Ptex for repairing bases, edge sharpeners, etc. You can find them on our website.

All products benefit from a manufacturer guarantee, as long as the damage is caused by a manufacturing defect (may it be hidden or obvious).

Usually, the manufacturer guarantee lasts two years.

Only the manufacturer is able to decide if there has been a 'manufacturing defect' or a 'misuse'. Glisshop is only an intermediary between you and the manufacturer.

The manufacturer's guarantee will not apply if the problem comes from a misuse.

Setting the release value of your bindings is a major safety issue.

In order to fully function and ensure safety, your bindings need to be set according to the Afnor FD S 52-748 standard. We wrote down a guide to help you find out the release value matching your needs.
