Golden Orca: the best balance between freeride and all-mountain performance

The Lib Tech Golden Orca uses a volume-shifted design without taking the concept as far as the Orca II. Lib Tech recommends riding it just 1 to 3 cm shorter than a traditional snowboard. Its setback is limited to 2.5 cm, while the sidecut radius measures 8 m across most lengths. The stance is therefore directional, but less pronounced than on the Orca II.

Its C2x profile combines central rocker with camber zones underfoot. Lib Tech uses this construction to deliver float, edge control and pop. The tail is also designed to provide greater versatility when riding switch. The Golden Orca is therefore a compelling option for riders seeking a freeride-oriented shape without sacrificing the ability to ride switch.

Orca II: a shorter, more directional shape

The Orca II takes the concept that made the Orca famous even further. Lib Tech recommends choosing this board 3 to 6 cm shorter than a traditional model. Its long nose is paired with a setback ranging from 5.1 to 6.4 cm depending on length, while its sidecut radius remains around 7 m. This shape places greater emphasis on directional riding and float in deep snow.

The Orca II also features a C2x profile and Magne-Traction edges. The difference from the Golden Orca therefore lies not simply in its camber or grip, but primarily in its more radical proportions. At a comparable board length, the shorter radius enables tighter changes of direction, while the rearward stance and high-volume nose reinforce its freeride focus.

Two directional Orcas with different levels of specialisation

The decision is therefore less about choosing between an ‘easy’ and a ‘high-performance’ board, and more about the riding style you prefer. The Golden Orca is the most suitable option if you want to retain all-mountain versatility, make the most of varied resort terrain and enjoy greater freedom when riding switch. The Orca II is better suited to riders who prioritise freeriding, deep snow and a distinctly directional stance.

In both cases, their flex, shape and overall positioning make them better suited to advanced and expert snowboarders than to riders looking for an accessible first board.
