The Alpinist Free 13 is aimed at skiers who want to retain a manageable weight for the climbs while using wider skis and placing greater emphasis on downhill performance.

Alpinist Free 13: what does the freeride version offer?

The Marker Alpinist Free 13 105mm features a release setting range of 6 to 13 and weighs 395 g per binding, including the brake. Its main distinguishing feature compared with the standard Alpinist models is a wider baseplate, designed to increase the contact area and improve power transmission to the ski.

It retains a carbon-reinforced ISI Toe piece and its step-in assistance system. The wider platform makes it easier to align the boot with the pins, while the lever mechanism reduces the force required to engage the toe piece.

Three climbing positions to adapt the heel risers on the ascent

Alpinist bindings offer three climbing-mode positions: 0°, 5° and 9°. These allow you to adjust the boot’s heel height to suit the gradient.

On the Alpinist Free 13, the Fast Shift system allows you to move quickly from the flat position to the highest heel riser without having to rotate the heel piece fully.

What does Active Length Compensation do?

Active Length Compensation allows the heel piece to move backwards as the ski flexes. This travel can reach 4 mm. The mechanism is designed to accommodate the ski’s natural flex and maintain more consistent binding performance as it bends.

Alpinist 8 and Alpinist 10: the most touring-oriented models

The Alpinist 8 covers a release setting range of 3 to 8. It prioritises low weight and features a pin toe piece and three heel-riser positions to adapt to the varying gradients encountered during the ascent.

The Alpinist 10 increases the release setting range to 4-10. It weighs 720 g per pair and incorporates a 90 mm ski brake. With its 4-to-10 release setting range, it sits between the Alpinist 8 and the Alpinist Free 13.

Which boots should you use with Marker Alpinist bindings?

Marker Alpinist models are Low Tech pin bindings. They therefore require ski touring boots equipped with compatible tech inserts.

Brakes, leashes and ski crampons: which accessories are available for Alpinist bindings?
