The Armada Declivity skis combine a directional shape with constructions suited to increasingly deep snow. The Declivity 82 Ti stays focused on carving and firm snow. 82 Ti or 88 C: titanal for piste skiing, carbon to lighten the ride

The Declivity 82 Ti and 88 C are the two models closest to everyday resort use, but their construction does not aim for exactly the same outcome. The 82 Ti uses a full-length titanal layer and an 82 mm waist. The 88 C gains 6 mm underfoot and relies on carbon reinforcements, with no metal layer.

Armada Declivity 82 Ti

The Declivity 82 Ti is the most piste-focused model in the range. Its 82 mm waist reduces the time needed to move from one edge to the other, while its full-length titanal layer supports torsional stiffness and edge grip. The slight tip and tail rocker adds a touch of manoeuvrability, but its identity is first and foremost that of a ski designed for carving on firm snow.

The Declivity 82 Ti is aimed at skiers who mainly want to tip the ski over and carve on groomers. At 82 mm underfoot, it offers quicker edge-to-edge transitions than the 88 C, but less surface area when the snow becomes deeper or heavily transformed.

Armada Declivity 88 C

The Declivity 88 C retains a directional shape and a sandwich construction but replaces the titanal reinforcement with carbon. The absence of titanal limits the damping associated with that type of reinforcement and can make the ski feel livelier in turn initiation and direction changes. At 88 mm underfoot, it also provides a broader platform for skiing transformed snow or the side country.

The Declivity 88 C makes more sense than the 82 Ti when the skier wants to leave groomed runs regularly without stepping up to a freeride ski over 100 mm. On the flip side, the lack of titanal does not give it quite the same level of damping or the same planted feel under pressure as the 82 Ti on hardpack.

Declivity X 102 or X 108: versatility or performance in deep snow?

The Declivity X 102 and X 108 share a poplar core, AR100 sidewalls and ATB-X titanal layers. Their most obvious difference is width, but their radii also reveal two distinct intentions. The X 102 keeps radii from 17 to 18.5 m. The X 108 adopts radii from 22 to 26 m.

Armada Declivity X 102

At 102 mm underfoot, the Declivity X 102 sits between a wide all-mountain ski and a freeride ski. Its tip rocker and early taper promote pivoting and support in soft snow. The camber underfoot and more directional tail preserve useful edge contact when the terrain firms up again.

The X 102 is the more measured choice of the two Declivity X skis. It offers more float than the 88 C without reaching the bulk or the turn radii of the X 108. It will suit skiers who still need to cross groomed sections or ski variable snow during the same outing.

Armada Declivity X 108

The Declivity X 108 increases width and radius considerably. Its 108 mm waist increases the surface area in deep snow, while its 22 to 26 m radii steer the ski more towards big turns and open terrain. Its ATB-X construction combines a poplar core with titanal layers designed to support the ski in open terrain and at speed.

The X 108 requires more room and a greater degree of commitment than the X 102. Its width and radius enhance float and favour longer turns but demand more anticipation in tight sections and when changing edge on groomed snow.

What do the letters C, Ti and X mean in the Declivity range?

The letter C in the Declivity 88 C refers to the use of carbon reinforcements. The ski does not use the metal construction found on the Ti and X versions. The designation Ti identifies the Declivity 82 Ti and its ATB titanal reinforcement. On the Declivity X skis, Armada uses an ATB-X version made up of titanal layers integrated into a broader freeride construction.

So these designations do not simply refer to three widths. They also indicate different constructions, with consequences for weight, damping and the way pressure is transmitted to the ski.

Armada Declivity or ARV: directional skiing or freestyle?

The Declivity skis favour directional skiing, with a tail designed to help drive the ski out of the turn and reinforcements intended to support pressure. The skis in the Armada ARV and ARW range make greater use of a twin-tip shape, suited to freestyle.

A skier who prioritises carving, big turns and a directional handling will naturally be better suited to the Declivity. For skiing switch, hitting features or making more freestyle use of the terrain, the ARV and ARW are more appropriate.
