From park to backcountry: Head Oblivion skis

To help you find the Oblivion ski that suits you best, the models vary in width and construction according to their intended balance between park, all-mountain and backcountry use.

Head Oblivion 79: agile freestyle ski

Approachable and fun, this ski focuses on playfulness and freestyle progression. With its tip-and-tail rocker, twin-tip shape and wood core, it prioritises manoeuvrability for jibbing, side hits and flatland tricks.

  • Waist width: 79 mm

  • Turn radius: 19.1 m

  • Ability level: Intermediate–Advanced

  • Intended use: Freestyle

Head Oblivion 84: playful ski

Wider while remaining firmly freestyle-focused, it is designed for both the park and the wider ski area. Its traditional camber combined with tip-and-tail rocker maintains grip underfoot, while the twin-tip shape allows for switch skiing. The ISS system helps dampen vibrations.

  • Waist width: 84 mm

  • Turn radius: 19 m

  • Ability level: Intermediate–Advanced

  • Intended use: Freestyle

Head Oblivion 94: from the park to the rest of the mountain

The Oblivion 94 expands the playground even further. Its Sandwich Twintip construction combines a wood core with the ISS system and Tuff-Wall/Base/Edge reinforcements. With a 94 mm waist, it retains a genuine freestyle character while providing more surface area underfoot when the snow becomes softer.

  • Waist width: 94 mm

  • Turn radius: 22.8 m depending on length

  • Ability level: Intermediate–Advanced

  • Intended use: Freestyle

Head Oblivion 102: backcountry freestyle ski

The Oblivion 102 marks a more pronounced move towards backcountry skiing. Its Carbon Sandwich Cap construction and core combining poplar wood with recycled PET set it apart from the narrower models. With a 102 mm waist and twin-tip shape, it retains a strong freestyle identity while offering greater capability in powder.

  • Waist width: 102 mm

  • Turn radius: 22.8 m at 181 cm

  • Ability level: Intermediate–Advanced

  • Intended use: Backcountry

Head Oblivion 116: the widest model for freestyle in powder

With a 116 mm waist, the Oblivion 116 is the widest model in the range. It features a Carbon Sandwich Cap construction with a wood/PET core and a twin-tip shape. Its focus shifts decisively towards backcountry freestyle and deep-powder sessions. Head designed it for expert skiers, with a long turn radius suited to big lines and open terrain.

  • Waist width: 116 mm

  • Turn radius: 30.8 m at 189 cm

  • Ability level: Expert

  • Intended use: Backcountry

A closer look at Park & Pipe Rocker

The Park & Pipe Rocker profile features across the Oblivion range, combining rocker at the tip and tail with a cambered section underfoot. Head uses this profile to preserve the playful feel required for freestyle skiing while maintaining control through the centre of the ski.

  • Tip-and-tail rocker: makes pivoting, switch skiing and tricks such as butters easier.

  • Camber underfoot: maintains contact with the snow to retain edge grip and support through turns.

  • Twin-tip shape: allows skiers to ride and land in either direction.

The balance between camber and rocker varies across the models. In particular, the Oblivion 102 and 116 feature more rocker than their narrower counterparts, in keeping with their backcountry focus.

Expertise and advice from Glisshop

From the park-focused Head Oblivion 79 to the 116 designed for powder freestyle, each increase in width brings greater off-piste and backcountry capability. Your choice will therefore depend primarily on the terrain where you plan to ski most often.
