Elan Ripstick 2017

Alpine Ski Elan RipStick 106

Ski sold without binding.

Like a munition specialist, Elan engineers developed freeride skis like dynamite sticks and the Rip Stick 106 is the perfect exemple. The Tubelite  wood core is endowed with carbon tubes on the entire length of the ski. With such a construction, the rebound becomes explosive and the snappiness stupendous whilst saving weight. That is why the Elan Rip Stick 106 shows only 1840g on the scale for a 185cm ski. For a stunning and fluid glide on every terrains, this ski has Vaportip inserts to reduce the unwanted tip and tail vibrations.

What can the Elan Rip Stick 106 ski do?

This ski is designed for freeride sessions on beautiful powder days. The 106mm waist and the amphibio shape, with a camber and a rocker on the same ski, make it float in the powder fields. You can engage on technical and steep terrains, drop cliffs and cornices and play between the trees in backcountry. The main asset of the Rip Stick 106 is its ability to come back on hardpack to chill on the mountain or when the powder is lacking. In the end, this multi-purpose ski is ideal to ride all winter long.

Who is the Elan Rip Stick 106 ski designed for?

With the Rip Stick 106, Elan target confirmed and expert riders who want to have fun with a snappy ski powder orientated, light underfoot and fluid to ride no matter the snow conditions.

Shape

  • Directional (front tip)  :

The ski shape allows only a directional use.

Structure - Construction

  • Amphibio  :

The Amphibio technology is a breakthrough. A trend-setter, never a follower. Aware of possible limitations of fully rockered skis, Elan has made a step further and developed skis without the need to compromise between edge grip or easy turning. Rocker ensures full edge contact, but without full edge grip. Amphibio, on the other hand, features a cambered and a rockered edge. The botom ski with full edge contact ensures optimal edge grip, while the upper ski offers partial edge contact for easy turning.

Regular rocker profile provides easy turning but lacks full edge grip on steep and icy terrain due to shorter edge contact. Amphibio profile has different profiles of inner and outside edges that deliver no compromise between edge grip and easy turning. Bottom ski in the turn has full edge contact and provides full edge grip. Upper ski in the turn has partial edge contact and provides easy turning.

  • SST Sidewalls  :

Sidewall Construction features a vertically placed ABS material above the edges from tip to tail of the ski. Sidewall offers direct power transmission from skier foot to the edge for control and stability at speeds and provides acceleration out of the turns.

  • Fiberglass  :

Positioned either above or below the ski core, the Fibreglass reinforcement optimizes the flex pattern and enhances torsional stiffness.

  • Vaportip inserts  :

Vaportip inserts are made of advanced composite materials and integrated to the ski core in the tip and tail areas. Thses inserts help reducing the weight and the vibrations and they enhance stability for a more comfortable ride in difficult conditions.

  • TNT Technology
  • Tubelite Woodcore

Camber type

  • Classic camber  :

When the ski sits flat on the ground, the tip and the tail are in contact with it while the midsection rises above. It is this section that maximises the energy transmission towards the edge, ideal for piste skiing. It also provides a rebound which enhances energy return and pop.

Rocker type

  • Tip and tail rocker  :

Full length rocker perfect for surfing powder. It floats easily and ensures smooth and effortless turns. Landings are easier too.
