Ski helmet buyer’s guide
Skiing or snowboarding helmets for women, men, or kids
This buying guide will help you choose the right gear for your needs. Whether you're looking for a recreational ski helmet or a FIS ski helmet for competitive use, you'll certainly find what you're looking for.
Do you really need a ski helmet?
Back in the '80s, beanies were the essential accessory on the slopes when there were fewer skiers, but today it's a different story. For your safety when skiing, it's now strongly recommended to wear proper head protection. Firstly, to prevent injury from unexpected falls on ice or a minor slip-up, but more importantly, to protect against collisions, which are becoming more frequent at resorts. So, no hesitation—after selecting your winter sports clothing and your ski goggles, take a moment to find the right men's, women's, or children's helmet and enjoy the slopes safely.
How to measure ski helmet size?
To choose the right size, you can easily measure your head circumference or your child’s using a measuring tape. Some brands even offer adjustable size helmets with adjustment wheels that allow for precise tailoring of the internal volume.
What should you check when buying a snowboard helmet?
All the helmets we offer comply with the relevant European standards (CE-EN 1077), ensuring optimal impact resistance. High-end versions, like In-Mold helmets, are often lighter (with the same level of protection) thanks to innovative materials and cutting-edge technologies, such as MIPS helmets, which offer excellent anti-shock protection. A lightweight helmet is an important comfort factor—it almost feels like you’re not wearing it! You can also opt for a ski helmet with a chin guard if you enjoy high speeds and thrilling sensations. Ventilation is crucial, especially for ski touring or ski mountaineering enthusiasts who burn a lot of energy during climbs and need efficient cooling. Some alpine models even feature adjustable ventilation, allowing you to regulate airflow according to the temperature, along with removable linings for easy washing at the end of the season. You'll even find helmets with audio systems that let you cruise the slopes to your favourite tunes.
As for style, it's all about personal preference: matte or glossy materials, visors, matching colours with ski boots or patterns, fleece lining, or feminine details—choose the one that complements your outfit best.
When should you choose a visor helmet?
Increasingly popular, this snow sports accessory is taking over the slopes due to its sporty look. The articulated visor is easy to lift and lower, unlike traditional goggles that tend to slip. At Glisshop, you'll be spoiled for choice with over 100 models available in our visor helmet selection.
Ski helmet brands
Glisshop offers a vast choice to ensure you find the design and technical features you need in a helmet. You can choose from a wide range of brands, including Briko, Scott, Bollé, Cairn, Casco, Diezz, Cébé, Julbo, Poc, Smith, Oakley, Dainese, Marker, Anon, Giro, Salomon, Rossignol, K2, and Atomic. With over 500 helmets available throughout the year, you're sure to find the perfect one at Glisshop!
How often should you replace your ski helmet?
Like any PPE (PPE = Personal Protective Equipment), it's recommended to replace your helmet every 5 years to maintain optimal impact resistance. Temperature changes, air oxidation, and especially ultraviolet radiation constantly attack plastics and other materials, eventually weakening them.
