Faction Prodigy: Freestyle and Backcountry Ski Range

From the Prodigy 0 with its 85 mm waist to the Prodigy 4 with its 116 mm waist, the Faction range gradually broadens its playground. The Prodigy 0 and 1 stay close to the piste and freestyle in the terrain park, the Prodigy 2 and 2 Capsule open things up further to all-mountain use, while the Prodigy 3 and 4 move towards backcountry and deep snow. The numbers do not correspond directly to the skier’s ability level: they mainly identify widths and intended uses.

Putting float and a surfy feel in deep snow first

  • Prodigy 0: 4/10 flex and a hybrid poplar-foam core to reduce weight at the tips and tails.

  • Prodigy 1 and 1 Capsule: 6/10 flex, poplar-ash core and carbon-rubber reinforcement underfoot.

  • Prodigy 2 and 2 Capsule: 7/10 flex, poplar core and carbon-rubber reinforcement underfoot.

  • Prodigy 3 and 3 Capsule: 106 mm waist for backcountry skiing.

  • Prodigy 4: 116 mm waist and a primary focus on deep snow.

Prodigy 0 or Prodigy 1: two different routes into freestyle

Prodigy 0: the most accessible in the range

With its 85 mm waist and softer flex, the Prodigy 0 is the entry point into the collection. Its Fusion Wood Core places poplar under the central section and foam in the tips and tails to keep weight down. This construction sets it apart from the other Prodigy skis and makes it easier to handle.

The Prodigy 0 is aimed at skiers looking for the lightest ski at the tips and the softest flex in the range for piste skiing, playing on natural terrain and taking to the park. Its 85 mm waist encourages more immediate edge-to-edge transitions than the wider Prodigy skis, but limits float when the snow gets deep.

Prodigy 1: a firmer build for the park

The Prodigy 1 moves to an 88 mm waist and combines poplar with ash. Denser, ash increases the core’s torsional stiffness and durability. The carbon-rubber stomp pad strengthens the zone underfoot and helps absorb vibrations on landings.

The Prodigy 1 remains narrow enough to favour quick edge changes. It is mainly aimed at skiers who want to work on tricks, ski switch and use park features without giving up efficient piste performance. However, it offers less float than the Prodigy 2, 3 and 4.

Prodigy 1 Capsule: a different graphic identity

The Prodigy 1 Capsule uses the same 88 mm waist, poplar and ash core, carbon-rubber stomp pad and intended use as the Prodigy 1. It stands out through its Capsule graphic, with no change to its construction or flex.

Prodigy 2: the pivot model in the range

At 98 mm underfoot, the Prodigy 2 and 2 Capsule significantly broaden the brief compared with the Prodigy 1. They retain a park and freestyle bias but gain extra surface area for riding natural features and fresh snow. Their width remains more moderate than that of the Prodigy 3 and 4, which supports more direct edge-to-edge transitions on groomed snow.

Their poplar core, directional twin shape, elliptical sidecut and carbon-rubber reinforcement underfoot combine pop, support and vibration damping. The Prodigy 2 suits skiers who want to throw tricks across the whole ski area rather than limit themselves to the terrain park.

Prodigy 2 Capsule: same build, distinctive graphic

The Prodigy 2 Capsule keeps the construction, 98 mm waist and flex of the Prodigy 2 but features an exclusive Capsule graphic.

Prodigy 3 or Prodigy 4: how far should you prioritise float?

Prodigy 3: 106 mm for backcountry

The Prodigy 3 reaches 106 mm at the waist. This width increases float and takes things further to focus on fresh snow, natural terrain and backcountry freestyle. Its shape remains a directional twin: the turned-up tail allows switch skiing and switch landings but is narrower than the tip to maintain a forward-oriented ride.

The Prodigy 3 is for skiers looking for a wide, playful ski while still wanting more versatility in resort than with the Prodigy 4.

Prodigy 3 Capsule: same construction, distinct graphic edition

The Prodigy 3 Capsule takes the Prodigy 3 platform, with a 106 mm waist, poplar core, directional twin shape and elliptical sidecut. Its Capsule edition is distinguished by its graphics, with no technical changes.

Prodigy 4: 116 mm for powder days

The Prodigy 4 takes the width up to 116 mm at the waist. It clearly shifts the intended use towards powder and freestyle in soft snow, with more surface area to boost float and support landings away from the slopes. Its higher flex and size make it less accessible than the Prodigy 0 and less lively edge to edge than the Prodigy 1.

The Prodigy 4 really comes into its own when powder is the main priority. On hard snow or on a day spent mostly on groomers, its width demands more commitment to move from edge to edge than the Prodigy 2 and 3.

What the Prodigy skis share, and what really changes

The Prodigy skis combine a directional twin shape with an elliptical sidecut. The longer radius underfoot encourages pivoting, while the shorter radii at the tips and tails make turn initiation easier. The turned-up tail allows switch skiing without making the skis fully symmetrical.

The construction evolves according to the model. The Prodigy 0 uses a hybrid core combining poplar and foam, while the Prodigy 1 blends poplar and ash. The Prodigy 2, 2 Capsule, 3 and 4 are built around a poplar core. The Prodigy 1, 1 Capsule, 2 and 2 Capsule add a carbon-rubber reinforcement underfoot to strengthen this area and absorb some of the vibrations.

Faction Prodigy poles

The Faction Prodigy poles are one-piece poles featuring an 18 mm aluminium shaft, a rubber grip, an adjustable strap and a 60 mm piste basket.

Prodigy, Studio or Dancer: which Faction range should you look at?

The Prodigy range develops a single freestyle DNA from park towards freeride as the width increases. The Faction Studio range keeps a freestyle focus with different constructions and widths. More directional, the Faction Dancer range gives more emphasis to edge hold and power transfer.
